Superuser accomplished, am I ready to flash a Rom

Once I'm a superuser by rooting the device, I'm I ready to flash a rom ?

I keep reading I need JG1 or Odin to flash a rom ?

From what I understand, you don't need SU to do it. I used odin to flash it.

Pardon my ignorance what is Odin ? I download a file over at xda for my T-mobile U.S name update.zip put it in my internal card and am NOW a superuser, Can I bake and flash a rom using the same method already ?

Odin is used to flash the firmware in a special download mode. It's different from the update method that I used to do in my old HTC Magic.
