Guest AnDroidNooB Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 im following the ultimate pulse owners guide and im trying to install a custom rom " Installing A 2.1 Custom Rom Please note that this portion of the Guide is only for those using a T-Mobile Pulse (U8220). This will NOT work for those using a U8320 or a U8220-6. Please check the label located under the battery to determine your version You must have the Official 2.1 update installed BEFORE attempting to install a 2.1 custom rom. Please follow the guide [here] It is recommended that you do not install the Customized HU patch before installing custom roms. If you have already please follow the guide [here] Difficulty Level 2/5 (easy) Known Bugs The phone is prone to freezes when using apps that use both Data and CPU in bursts. Such as: Facebook, Market, Browser Bluetooth may not work correctly with some custom roms Text messages arn't sending / receving properly What you will need: A Pulse A Micro SD Card (Recommended to have at least 1gb free space) A Micro USB Cable or An Micro SD Card Reader A Word of Caution Please note that installing this update will wipe everything off your phone. (Contacts, messages, apps etc.) Please ensure that you back them up if required. Your SD card will not be wiped before, during or after the update process. Also please refer to the previous warning: Custom Rom Choices In my opinion Paul's rom needs more work, it is a little slower than the other 2. Flibblesan's is by far the fastest. Zerosignull's has a lot of great features but hasn't been updated in a while. Paul's r7 Work In progress 2.1 Rom: T-Mobile Style http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile...en-android-2-1/ Flibblesan's FLB Custom Rom: Espresso Style http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile...om-with-tweaks/ Direct Link (With the option of AppsToSd): http://www.multiupload.com/1I7VD5WBA6 Zerosignull's Oscillation Custom Rom: Vanilla Style http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile...llation-rom-r7/ Direct Link (With the Option of AppsToSd): http://www.qooy.com/files/WIP30DO5/Pulse_O...ationROMR7B.zip The Guide Step 1: Download the "Custom Recover Image" http://loadbalancing.modaco.com/download.p...gl5iiciea41vu4t Step 2: Extract the ZIP anywhere on your computer and navigate into the "1.5.2-pulse-amonrarecovery" folder Step 3: Power Off your device. Hold down the POWER + RED (End call) + VOLUME DOWN keys until a blue screen appears Step 4: Plug your device into your computer and wait for the drivers to be installed (Windows Only) If your computer does not find the necessary drivers your can't proceed. Please Manually locate the new drivers from the "PC Suite" that was included within the Official 2.1 update ZIP Step 5: Open the "install-recovery-windows.bat" (Windows) or the "install-recovery-mac.sh" (Mac) or the "install-recovery-linux.sh" (Linux) This will open and close very quickly. There is no visible indication that anything has happened on either the computer or the phone. If you get a "waiting for device" or an error refer to the FAQ [here] Step 6: Unplug your device, remove and re-insert the battery. Press and Hold down: "POWER + MENU + RED (End call) Keys until the "Custom recover image" screen appears It may appear after the origonal Tmobile boot or between the android screen. If not remove the battery and try again. Note: When using the Custom Recovery image use the Trackball to move up / down and press to select. Use the back button to go back. Step 7: Select the Option "USB MS Toggle" and plug your phone into your computer. Download a Custom ROM of your choice and place the ENTIRE ZIP (Do not extract it) onto the root of your SD card. By "Root" I mean do not place the file in any subfolders" i get to step 6 but when i open the custom recovery image thing theres no "USB MS Toggle" option.. please help

Guest ogiogi Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 Hmm. Looks like the custom recovery didn't install correctly. Do you have Pulse 2.1 drivers installed on your PC?

Guest Simon O Posted July 17, 2010 Report Posted July 17, 2010 HELP! If you have downloaded the Hungarian T-Mobile 2.1 ROM (which you will need) then this contains the PC Suite which also has the drivers. Installing the PC Suite will also install the drivers. If you need to install drivers manually, do this: (from Google search) Open DEVICE MANAGER To open DEVICE MANAGER: Press the Windows + R keys, type in devmgmt.msc . Any hardware without a driver will be in a section with a yellow question mark: Device Manager (click on Thumbnail for a larger view) If that hardware has a CD or file that will automatically install everything, run it now. If you have anything left in DEVICE MANAGER that hasn't had its driver installed, try the following before attempting to install the driver manually. Right click on the device > choose UPDATE DRIVER > in the resulting screen choose Install the software automatically. If your lucky XP will already have the driver. If not you'll have to do it manually. To install a driver manually: In DEVICE MANAGER, double-click that hardware item > Click the Reinstall Driver button > in the resulting screen check No, not this time and click Next > - If you know exactly what driver you want to install choose Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) and in the following screens browse to the location of the file to install the driver. Insert the manufacturers CD if needed. - If you do not know exactly what driver to install insert the manufacturer CD and choose Install the software automatically (Recommended) > If that does not work, go back and this time choose Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) > in the resulting screen in the Search for the best driver in these locations section check the box that says Include this location in the search and browse to the file that contains you driver. If that fails you'll have to do it manually.[/code]
