Guest CharlieBareham Posted July 17, 2010 Report Posted July 17, 2010 Hey guys, thought I would let you know, I broke my phone screen >.< The Gorilla glass survived without a scratch, but when I was out dirt bike'ing, forgot it was in my pocket and fell off, headphone went through the screen However, the problem is o2 are out stock stock at the moment, so I am looking at around a week to two weeks without a phone! God damn it. Anyone else had a problem with out of stock? How long it takes to come in?
Guest jdouce Posted July 17, 2010 Report Posted July 17, 2010 this seems to be a problem that about 10 broke the screens. gorilla glass fine ... but the screen under breaks
Guest CharlieBareham Posted July 17, 2010 Report Posted July 17, 2010 this seems to be a problem that about 10 broke the screens. gorilla glass fine ... but the screen under breaks The trouble is that it bends. If something hard is pushed into it, I guess it has to be really hard since I fell with my whole body weight, with something of an extremely small surface area, such as my headphone, it shatters below. Pity they couldn't have made the actual LCD part out of GoGa.
Guest Fawaad Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 The good thing is that you didn't break anything else is a better way to put it. On a separate note, I would have loved to sell my Dell Streak which is painfully locked to O2 but I'm in Australia. You might be able to find a few new ones from UK on eBay with no shipping time.
Guest streak dan Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 I've just sold mine for £320 and i've seen a couple go for between £300-330 in the last few days so keep a look out if you want a cheap one... In unrelated news i have just bought without doubt the best phone ever! http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.207-4006.aspx
Guest chrisms_cotland Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 I'm thinking about ordering a Streak from Dell this week but the spate of screen breakages that are being reported are putting me off a bit.
Guest CharlieBareham Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 I'm thinking about ordering a Streak from Dell this week but the spate of screen breakages that are being reported are putting me off a bit. My one was purely because I landed on it after jumping a ramp and my headphone went into the screen. Luckily it is insured, so thats all good. Just a bit of a wait.
Guest chrisms_cotland Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 Yeah your one seems a "legitimate" break that would have broken anything, but there are loads of reports of scratching and breakage from incidents that shouldn't be causing it to break.

I suppose, it IS just a phone after all so it had better at least be good at doing that (one would hope).

But it's only a stopgap until my new iphone 4 arrives...found a great deal that was far too good to pass up...

Luckily it is insured, so thats all good. Just a bit of a wait. I broke mine almost two weeks ago (7th July) and am still waiting on o2's insurance folk to get the phone back in stock. They don't seem to have any idea when the phone is due back in stock. They offered my an HTC HD 2 (meh) but I think I'll just wait for the streak

I bought one, didnt work out of the box, replaced it, it died after the 2nd charge, the 3rd one is sitting there at home with the screen flashing. I've given up

Guest Fawaad Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 I'm willing to sell mine as it's locked to O2 and can't make it work in Australia. It has the receipts and all and hardly used.
Guest PaulVlagsma Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Did you try the Rebel Sim card ? My Dell Streak works fine in Sydney, with Telstra, using a Rebelsim card.

I havent after hearing so many horror stories. Personally I love the device and it's potential. I might add some more money and get an unlocked version for myself. I'm with 3 and you know how the signal is unstable (specially in trains). I have heard if you lose signal, then there is no other way of getting network without the use of another 2G unlocked phone.
Guest zazzalicious Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 (edited) Did you try the Rebel Sim card ? My Dell Streak works fine in Sydney, with Telstra, using a Rebelsim card. Mine is working great here in Thailand on DTAC with a rebelsim card. Once it seemed to lose the data connection and I had to put it in another phone to re-register on the network. (An unlocked iPhone 3GS). This has only happened the one time over the last couple of months. YMMV. Edited July 24, 2010 by zazzalicious
Guest CharlieBareham Posted July 28, 2010 Report Posted July 28, 2010 Anyone claiming O2 insurance, be in for a long wait. I posted this 11 days ago and as of yet, still have not received a replacement. I rung them yesterday - you can purchase Streaks from their website so I presumed they were in stock - and the guy confirmed that they are and the phone would be delivered tomorrow (today). Rung again 6-7PM turns out they are not in stock, no idea who said that they were and that they will not be in stock until next Friday. This is getting unbelievable.
Guest bidi_123 Posted July 28, 2010 Report Posted July 28, 2010 I to have the same problem, thing is I have a Xda Flint which stopped working for me, luckily I got offered the Streak as a replacement, unfortunately i have been waiting for over a week now!
Guest CharlieBareham Posted July 29, 2010 Report Posted July 29, 2010 They offered some horrible alternatives, along the lines of the N97 and Palm Pixie
Guest Amdathlonuk Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 Got one for sale/ Mint on O2 with Co-pilot installed. £300+P&P In the UK.
