Everytime i go to paypal on the dell streak it redirects me to the mobile site which has absolutlely no functionality whatsoever. This is seriously fustrating. I use paypal daily and literally have to wait till i get to a pc to use it. I have a £400 internet tablet that is incapable of loading a website.

Absolutely amazing. Does anyone else have this issue?

Yes, it's that annoying user string issue again.

Before yo go to PayPal type about:debug into the browser URL field, then go to the settings menu and scroll to the bottom where you will find UAString, open that and set to desktop. Should work fine after that (unless they are using IP ranges to identify as well, I've seen that too).

This will only work until you close the browser, you will have to do it again if you open a new browser instance.

Works fine on mine, give me your details and I'll check for you... perhaps it specific to your account!

JK ofc :D

No idea if it works or not but I don't recall having any problems when browsing with the streak but perhaps it is due to the security the Paypal site uses. I'll check when my new Streak arrives but I suspect by then it will be too late.

I'd be careful about doing that, unless you have absolute trust in Skyfire (both the infrastructure and the company).

Because Skyfire is basically a remote desktop session being run on their server, that must mean your data is being intercepted on their server for conversion and transcoding. So there is no end-to-end secure connection between your phone and your bank.

Sure, the connections between your phone and Skyfire, and Skyfire and your bank, are encrypted, so no one outside that relationship can see your data. But it does mean that a 3rd party is being piggy in the middle in your session which could be a potential security risk.

The other problem with Skyfire and banking is that it is Skyfire's servers, not your phone or PC, that are connecting to the bank. So you may find some institutions blocking the connection as they cannot directly authenticate the end user or the client software they are using.

Opera Mini has similar issues, as they also decrypt the session on their servers so that web page content and images can be compressed and served up to your mobile. Interesting to note that Opera are a bit more open than Skyfire about this and specifically advise that you to use a "full" browser (e.g. Opera Mobile) if the lack of full end-to-end encryption is a concern.

Not saying in any of the above that Skyfire or Opera Mini are insecure - but it is only sensible to be aware of the risks, however small, before entrusting a 3rd party with sensitive data.

Have you guys actually got a full, working Paypal site? Even on Skyfire and Dolphin with the settings in "desktop" mode I still get taken to the mobile version. I can't see anywhere on the mobile version to change the settings at Paypal's end either. Maybe with the 2.2 update we will be able to get on the real site with the stock browser...? We can but hope.

I have the same issue. Both with the default browser and the latest xscope build.

Was using before a Standard rom 1.6 (00-EU). & it was able to download PayPal app from the Android Market... now since I have upgraded into 2.1 (in 21-UK O2 rom), no more Paypal application in the android market... tried marketaccess & enabler app to enable & search on the market: no way :D

I suppose that other fields from build.prop like phone model/signature are used to hide or show some applications...

So for those who want to use the paypal app for 24/4 7/7 usage... stay in Android 1.6
