Please help, complete noob with 2.3 ROM need to update

Hey everyone, basically I have a g2 (t-mob) and I rooted it and installed the modaco 2.3 custom rom a long time ago. My settings read

Firmware version - 1.5

build number - modaco custom ROM 2.3 core

Software version 1.0.0.A6288

Basically I want to update it to the latest ROM and use android 2.1 OS. Can anyone help me do this as Im a complete noob! am I right in thinking I should just follow this tutorial? http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero...en-android-2-1/

Ok I done the custom recovery image, copied the .zip to the SD and installed it. It said complete so I clicked reboot. Now my phone is sitting at the g2 touch 'T-mobile' splash screen as it has been for the past 25 mins! is this normal??

Ok so I had to take the battery out then I got a endless loop of the boot up screen 'quietly brilliant' So I have just wiped all the data and trying to reinstall the ROM
