What will happen if I flash a radio and not unlock (On Orange)

Hello guys, as the title says.. I'm still a little confused by the radio image.

If I unlock the phone, will flashing the radio lock it back on to Orange? I'm currently on 32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11

As I want to flash one of the Modaco Kitchen ROMs, which I know will make me feel like the phone is my own for the first time ever, and A2SD is fantastic, more apps :angry:.

So which makes me believe, can you update the radio on the Desire without unlocking it in the first place, and will it still be locked on to Orange? Or will it render the phone useless? As I'm on Orange any way, I'm not bothered by the phone being locked to Orange, I just want to know if it's safe to flash the radio without requiring an unlock code, or remote unlock.

my understanding is that you MUST unlock before updating the radio otherwise the phone locks out

Pretty much any radio other than the one you have will lock when you upgrade the radio - personally it's only 9 quid for a code from eBay - just buy a code and unlock the phone and you won't have to worry about it. Once you've got the lock code and unlocked the phone you can use any SIM or radio without any hassle. Seeing the amount of crap Orange put on the phone it really is a good idea to flash the newer stuff.

Oh and if you do update the radio all it will do is sit there waiting for you to enter the lock code, no 'harm' is done to your phone - but in all honesty.. BUY AN UNLOCK CODE! :angry:

Just an update! The Unlocking Code which I received from:

worked perfectly!

£8.99 and took about 3 hours, slower than I hoped for, but at least it worked! Tomorrow will be the time for flashing and what not.
