Guest nobnut Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 This morning, my Dell Streak passed away. I'd like to tell you it was peacefully in its sleep... but it wasn't. First of all it started turning itself off. Then it refused to recognise the SD card (I tried three of them, yes all formatted correctly). Then it became unresponsive and wouldn't switch off. I took out the battery and then it wouldn't boot up. I decided that at this point it was suffering and thought it might be best to put it out of its mysery. It was at this point that it started vibrating like a parkinson's sufferer. I then took the battery out and decided to smash the living sh*t out of it when I get home from work. I'll post pictures later.
Guest popetodd Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 I see, more money than sense. First off, that sounded like a warranty covered issue but now that you've physically destroyed the item you get to eat 500 bones. Second, I bet if you'd have reflashed it it would have started working again, your problems do not sound hardware related in any way. Well, at least that was the case until you decided to throw a tantrum. Well done.

Well, at least that was the case until you decided to throw a tantrum. Well done. Not surprised the Dell committed suicide with the treatment this nutter handed out. I did try the old Goorrila glass test the other day at a barbeque (I was drunk at the time). I gave the screen the good news with the business end of a bic lighter, then a metal dowell I found lying around and finally the corner of a wooden picnic bench. I wasn't going totally nuts with it but I didn't hold back either.
Guest vinokirk Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 Hopefully itll make for good pics tho, shouldve video'd it
Guest popetodd Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 Ahh yes, I thought that login sounded familiar! Well there ya go, if you're someone who gets blind drunk and throws tantrums on you expensive hardware then the Streak is not for you! Lesson!
Guest nobnut Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 No tantrum, just 20 mins of vandalism-based therapy. Well worth the money. Warranties are against my religion, I'm a devout capitalist. Now for the factual part, a kind of consumer test: It was surprisingly difficult to break over all. The plastic side parts are just double-side taped on, be careful if you want to resecure them on your phone because they appear to be secured much more firmly in the middle and have a tendency to bend and discolour if you lever them off from the sides. The screen under the glass is very... and I mean very fragile. The slightest lateral twist on the phone shattered it. Do not be tempted to sit down with it in your back pocket... it will shatter under the Gorilla glass if the phone flexes even a tiny bit. It's just a phone, get over it. There are plenty more out there. PS, this is my second Streak since 4th June. Does that make me really bad?? :D Pics to follow.
Guest nobnut Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 Goodbye and good riddance to bad rubbish... Mmmm, which phone shall I buy tomorrow...
Guest nobnut Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 (edited) Sorry, the battery, charger, cable, case, dock stand, car stand and a bunch of other crap are going to my friend, he has a Streak and had first dibs. If he blows me out you are the first in line, you asked very nicely. I don't think he will though. PS I don't want cash, I believe in sharing the wealth. Edited July 19, 2010 by nobnut

Guest Bigootang Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 Was that the O2 insurance that paid out?
Guest nobnut Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 Yes, that's right, the conversation went something like this... O2 Gimp "Hi Sir, can I help you?" Me "I doubt it". O2 Gimp "Why? What's the problem?" Me "I've been an arse and bought a wrongun". O2 Gimp "What do you mean?" Mw "I mean, my under-educated friend, that the Dell Streak is a pile of shite". O2 Gimp "Do you need help setting it up?" Me "No, I need help burying it". Bigootang... does it look like I tried to convince O2 I accidentally dropped it onto a softly carpeted floor? I don't like the Dell Streak. It's not a good phone. Mine is now dead. RIP. Hallelujah.
Guest treble4 Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 pmsl classic thread mate theres no pockets in shrouds!!
Guest StarLog Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 Nobnut, You should put the remains in a BLENDER, it takes about 2 minutes, to grind it to powder, then it is like a cremation. Remember the dude, who ground up a iPhone that way.?
Guest courtlandre Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 I wish I had enough money to just destroy ~400 GBP! Nice pics though ;p
Guest Metoo Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 (edited) @Starlog - http://www.willitblend.com/ (funny, but really just a stunt to advertise their blenders) @nobnuts - so now you have had your fit of rage, what was it about the Streak you hated so much? Did you just buy the wrong device? Edited July 20, 2010 by Metoo

Did you just buy the wrong device? That has got be the best use for an iphone I've ever come across, testing blenders... Brilliant!
Guest nobnut Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 @nobnuts - so now you have had your fit of rage, what was it about the Streak you hated so much? Did you just buy the wrong device? Nothing, I just bought my third Streak since 4th June. I just have ADHD and too much money.
