Guest MrPokeylope Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 does this mean someone "cough" paul "cough" could make a 2.2 rom ? Jdouce and fards seem to be willing to have a go. I'm all for their efforts. Well done guys.
Guest fards Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 (edited) Tbh I'm still finding my way around. I know how to build a vanila build, whether it will work will be the test. I've got no real clue how to start including the streak specific stuff, especially the UI, but I suspect I'll A) work it out eventually :D 2) its going to be an apk anyway anyone with a better idea please get involved, guidance and info readily absorbed  Edited July 19, 2010 by fards
Guest jdouce Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 fards is MUCH more experienced in the general developing scene with me , well known on XDA, im learning too ... slowly... i managed to build 2.2 from source for the desire ... but ... for that we had a working vendor and freely available source...
Guest jdouce Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 we will get much better support whent he americans get hold of them.... at the min were stupid beta test uk dummies
Guest MrPokeylope Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 we will get much better support whent he americans get hold of them.... at the min were stupid beta test uk dummies Do we really want the stupid dell UI? I think stock android's much nicer. Hell... sense UI would be even more appreciated than dell's stark boring efforts. My worst fear is having this phone end up just having dell working on it. They are literally the most clueless company when it comes to bringing something unique or interesting.
Guest MrPokeylope Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 +1 for Sense on Streak! I worded my post wrong. Sense UI would be preferred to everything perhaps  I know these things'll come, but Dell say they're working on something really special. Now... this will come 4 months later than they promised, have features cut out, and quite possibly look no different to 1.6. I'm almost betting on no live wallpapers lol. I literally have no faith in the company. I love this phone, but they broke my soul somewhat a few years back working for them.
Guest courtlandre Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 The stock UI on 2.2 is nice (I like it more than sense). With that said, android is getting a huge revamp for 3.0 that I'm pretty excited about! I'm also excited about windows phone 7... basically I just get excited for new things!

This'll probably get a hacked version of wp7. It's more than capable of it anyway. After the over-complicatedness of winmo6... it seems overly simplified to me now. Still... xbox live? More standardisation? Yes please. I had my iphone for 2 years and ios literally killed me with lack of customisation. Android is just right. Love it. More powerful, less expensive UPGRADABLE phones and awesome new features with every revision, rather than apple giving you something else each year that phones have had for nearly a decade.... Read the new engadget streak review. Basically they say what i've been feeling. Stock 2.2 over dells underdeveloped effort every time.

Guest fards Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 (edited) if this boots i will actually come and kiss your feet lol looks like kernel didnt build. system is there and built but kernel has some errors this is on the Make btw.. trying a make mrproper and a make clean to see if it makes any difference I'll look when I'm less sleepy Edited July 20, 2010 by fards
Guest kwaaq Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 Freshly compiled Froyo boot/system/data images for surf/snapdragon failed spectacularly on my end. Though I wasn't actually expecting success. Not in a huge rush to fiddle about any more because recovery was a lot more painful than I was expecting. P.S. I'm 105% new to android dev as well, but thought I'd take a shot. Oh wells.
Guest fards Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 (edited) I've been trying to test a kernel with fastboot boot zImage ramdisk.img (which is supposed to be a non permanent thing). the image is downloading, but I@m getting an error that boot isn't a recognised remote command. FAILED (remote: invalid command) I wonder if it's been removed from the bootloader? ok flashed kernel using fastboot flash:raw boot zImage ramdisk.img but its no good it's powercycling before it gets to the 02 at least it's easy to get back, just flashed pauls "superboot" again :( Edited July 24, 2010 by fards
