I had tried sipdroid and Rebtel and some other rubbish...

Seems Rebtal work best for me but it is still not free.....eeeeee........

Any recommendation in terms of 1.) Stability, 2.) Call/Voice Quality, 3.) Price?

Well, there's Fring and Nimbuzz, two IM clients that also support VoIP. Nimbuzz right now is the only app on the market with Skype support, due to the whole Fring vs. Skype voice chat fiasco.

You may also want to try out 3CX amd SipAgent - both found in market.

Also, google voice with sipgate and sipsorcery has some advantages.

my intention is to discuss about voip for telephone calls, not net to net connection.

I use Linphone.

Voice quality is ok, easy to setup (but there really isn't much to setup), broken sound when using speakerphone, free on android market.

Im ... VoIP provider of myself: I have an Asterisk server at home, that calls with various provider.

It works very well both from inside home than from outside (SIP phones, Nokia smartphones, PC with SIP or IAX software).

I have tried many programs on my Liquid, but few worked well.

The better, for me, would be IAXagent, the only one for Android supporting IAX connections.

IAX connections are the best, because normally don't have router or NAT problems like SIP connections.

I found myself many times abroad with the Hotel WiFi not working with SIP but working with IAX.

Normally I use an IAX software (firefly) on my notebook, and it worked very well everytime both inside home that everywhere in the world.

IAXagent connects well but works only one way.

Normally one way problems happens when you have NAT problems, but the one-way problem is identical both inside home (so NO NAT) than outside, and the other IAX software works well with the same identical settings.

Other software (SIP, because no other IAX for Android found) have similar problem with my server, but not all...

Any way to have IAX working?

Someone have an idea?

Ciao, Piero.

Hello, refreshing this thread asking for tech. advice as though in 2.3.4 (and also 2.2 if I remember welll, SIP support is native in system, but I can make and receive calls BUT I hear no sound. Using Italian geographical number from Eutelia. Don't want to install Fring ( my number was registered there on a nokia n958gb).

Regards.

Thanks SUNDAWG for Your kind reply, but..... also tried that and it doesn't work for me, I think issue is audiocodec's related, but I dunno how to solve it. Also posted on CM7 7.01 thread but nobody replied.

Eutelia is an italian provider, tried also in an italian forum to get advice on this problem, I would really like to get this working natively, without another program running in background, like f.e. CSsimple.

Alessandro

Maybe you have to allow more codecs (in the settings) since some providers allow certain codecs and others don't. Another app worth trying is sipdroid, if you 'exit' out of the program, it doesn't leave anything running in the background.

So, thanks to all I solved by using SIPDROID, had to tweak some settings for Eutelia ( as first set user = your number, passw.= your Eutelia password, Server= voip.eutelia.it, Port= 5060, Protocol= UDP; no other changes unless : Use all possible channels: Wifi, 3G, EDGE - no VPN ): in notification : uncheck Vocal mailbox, check Registration;in Audio/Video Loudspeaker= High, Microph Gain=medium; in Audio Codecs checked all codecs as active. Works in WIFI and 3G , very good quality and as JAYZIAC said the program can be closed without any battery or processor involved issues when not in use.

More professional use of our device could have been ( without a third part program ) choosing different tweaks in the system, but with a modified ROM, who knows what libs contain ?

I use SIPDROID with a JustVoip account and it works *great*, at least WIFI <-> Landline/mobile phone (my network operator blocks VOIP over 3G)

Nimbuzz also works but I have better experience only using SipDroid for VOIP; Nimbuzz for MSN+Facebook accounts.

Even so, I´m very sad that Froyo does not feature built-in VOIP from day one (at least Acer´s...). Even older Symbian S60v3 allow you to configure a VOIP account and use it as if it was a normal 3G network call. I miss those days with Symbian, it had a fantastic *call/phone* performance which does not exist on Android/iOS.

One problem I got with SIPDROID: even after changing -on sipdroid settings- the mic gain sound it too low (the landline/mobile phone we are calling say they can barely hear me). It is not from the phone mic as 3G calls work great + it is not from JustVoip accound as when I use it from a PC calls work great.

Try to change Audio / video settings, as stated in the settings I had to lower Microph gain which was set to HIGH because other listener said he was hearing echo effects, I can confirm quality is really good. Other than that You can try with an open Hotspot, trying to understand if in Your router there is something delaying/lowering packet quality. As per my data plan here in Italy they said that VOIP shouldn't work, but it works nevertheless.

Regards

NB

I also can complain even with GB not really user friendly with voip use. In my N958GB I used mostly Fring, but it was related to the convergence with Skype, now dead.
