Guest -Wii- Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 Right I have established the problem is Ram related, The reason some texts have not been recieved is that I am using all the RAM by browsing the web. That is when they don't come through. So is it possible to set Handcent SMS and the messaging app as priority for RAM as we did with the home screen to prevent lag. Is there anyway of doing this? There must be. Now one of you clever people get on it. :D

Same with the text service, it does it to prevent a reboot  So imo there is no way this can be fixed without taping some extra ram to the back cover :D
Guest whackster Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 I've been suffering from the sms problem too, and I'm starting to think that its not just the ram that's causing it. I recently started using 3G, and that's when I was missing smss. So I think the 'use only 2G networks' switch could be helping, I guess the problem could be in the 3G code, the phone simply doesn't pull the sms from the network, or even worse it only marks it as read so its lost... Let's do a test when you are sure you have missed an sms, make sure you note if you were connected to a 3G network?

I don't think I've had the SMS problem...
Guest D-D- Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 But even if u r browsing, doesn't the text message come when u open the handsent app? It does to me. U can activate reminders, to notify u again and again if u have unread message.

Guest komloz Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 (edited) The problem isn't just notifying, the smss are simply missed, they never arrive. Same happened in my case with the stock 2.1 (HU) firmware. Then I upgraded to the lastest (10 July 2010) FLB-MOD and after the first boot I got my missed sms's... Either is was the FLB-MOD or the factory reset+reboot that helped ... Edited July 21, 2010 by komloz

Guest Ellia Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 In that case, might be the network switching that does the trick? After a reboot I didn't receive the lost SMS. Because of that I don't believe that switching the network will help. After a reboot the phone reconnect to the network too.

After a reboot the phone reconnect to the network too. That's what I meant, I didn't get the smss when switching networks, but it could be something when the phone registers to the network, causing it to pull the sms, but only for limited time? The thing is that I'm not convinced that its only because the lack of RAM that this is happening.
Guest Ellia Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 (edited) The main question is: where is the SMS? I rebooted my phone within a day after I lost the SMS. And normally the providers try to resend/to deliver the sms for one week (that is the setting from the person who send my the SMS). In fact of this the SMS should be on the phone, but isn't registered by Android. Maybe the is more than one possibility where the sms is. Is there any way to have a look in the android system with some log or anything else. I know when I should have received the SMS, maybe there is something special at this time. If the SMS/MMS daemon/service died exactly when the SMS should receive, than the sms is for the provider delivered and should be somewhere on the phone and will not be resend by the provider. I get this problem when I am at home with Wifi on, I am convinced its Ram related, not enough ram to receive the text so it simply doesn't still don't have a clue where they are going though!
Guest D-D- Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 (edited) The problem isn't just notifying, the smss are simply missed, they never arrive. With the Handcent or with the android messaging app that is already installed? I've noticed the problem waaaay back. I was always receiving a notification but never the message. After installing another app, it fetched the message and the message became readable on my phone. So the phone picks up the message but didn't notify me for a while. After installing Handcent (I'm not the owner if u r wondering if I'm advertising or something) the problem just vanished. All I did was excluding the app from the task killer, activated the reminder option on every 10 minutes for 3-4 times and I never missed a message. If it doesn't work for u, I'm sorry, but it does work for me. Edited July 21, 2010 by D-D-
Guest KenBW2 Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 Someone mentioned it could be due to lack of RAM. I propose that it could be lack of CPU, as I regularly see my CPU at 100%, sometimes bad enough to have the keyboard killed as I'm trying a message. I don't receive any notification of missed texts, but have been told on several occasions about texts I haven't received. This won't help with receiving texts, but to reduce CPU usage clear out your dalvik-cache every few days
Guest -Wii- Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 Has anyone come up with anything on this yet? Without sounding rude are you all just not popular enough or busy enough that a missed text is important, seems like this should be at the forefront of everyones attention and no one cares!

Without sounding rude are you all just not popular enough or busy enough that a missed text is important, seems like this should be at the forefront of everyones attention and no one cares! More like the issue doesn't affect everyone and unless you lot can provide some log files from your phone around the time a text was missing and it's fixable, then nothing can be done. I personally cannot just magic up a solution based on a problem I've never experienced myself and without any logs that could even help me find the cause of the issue. And yes, you did sound rude.

Sorry It's just very frustrating, Believe me I really appreciate what you do mate sorry for coming across that way. It makes no sense to me why you lot are not experiencing the problem but the only thing I can think off is that your volume of texts just isn't enough to notice it. I receive at least 250 texts a day. The problem tends to occur when I am browsing or on facebook and it just doesn't come through. Sometimes it does and I don't get a notification sometimes I just never get it. If you can point me in the right direction of how to record a log I will try and recreate the situation for you and provide you with feedback. The simple solution to me seems to be that you somehow set the messaging apps to remain constantly running it can't use to much CPU
Guest D-D- Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 Hmm... I had a browser opened with 3 tabs, facebook app running, twitter app running and ebuddy (and was always conected) + was sending sms and receiving them all the time (because of the free sms I DO TEXT A LOT). And so far not 1 text message missed. So it isn't a problem that everybody face. Actually is for some users only.

Would this shed any light on the problem? http://www.huaweidevice.com/community/thre...p;orderStr=null Or is this issue totally unrelated? I'm missing SMS as well, and just happens to be ones the wife sent (Orange-Tmobile) (Have you ever tried to explain to your wife that your phone didn't receive a text she sent? belive me it sounds really lame!)
Guest Azurren Posted August 15, 2010 Report Posted August 15, 2010 I don't know if the T-Mobile UK 2.1 rom has this issue. I would think NOT Only time will tell though :S
Guest stealthstealer Posted August 15, 2010 Report Posted August 15, 2010 (edited) I don't know if the T-Mobile UK 2.1 rom has this issue. I would think NOT Only time will tell though :S it does. missed texts on the first day after update. Seriously tempted to go back to 1.5, its getting worse for me, i used to be able to find a configuration with the 2.1 roms that seemed to always work. I made a nandroid backup of this and always restored when i missed a text. But after the official update, i cant restore old nandroids. And the problems getting worse! Guest Jimmy0 Posted August 15, 2010 Report Posted August 15, 2010 I'm on the 2.1 UK update and definitely missed two txts that I am aware of (one last night and one this morning). Might go back to 1.5...

I don't use my phone for much aside from txting, ringing and facebook, and all these run perfectly on 1.5. :D Edited August 15, 2010 by Jimmy0
