Guest fredphoesh Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 Hello all, Ive flashed with Pauls Modaco ROM, and replaced the TouchWiz with LaunchPro, and am VERY happy with the speed and overall performance. I did have a bit of a lag and a bit of a wifi connection issue, but flashed the rom again and the wifi problem disappeared, the lag went with TouchWiz. GPS has been fine, Navigation great, so has voice searching, playback of my Divx Xvid WMV videos and Flac Ape WMA etc audio files... been loving just dragging and dropping my movies and music to the EXT SD disk, just lovely to NOT have iTunes try to control your life!! Yahoo and Gmail push are fantastic and incredibly fast (for yahoo you MUST use the Yahoo Mail app which gives you IMAP on Yahoo!!! (yesssssss!!!!) with all its folders etc. Recording 720p videos has been really amazing, smooth 30fps with no dropped frames, and the audio was surprisingly good too. No flash for stills, but the cam shoots well in low light and you can bluetooth share the photos with your friends too. ABSOLUTELY bloody delighted I am, by far the best phone I have ever used, thank god I saw the light and returned my iPhone 4, though its really a very good phone, just not as good as this, with the openness, speed, flexibility and widgets! Thanks for the community and support here, Mark, UK.
Guest ZAnwar Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 Definitely the best phone I've used as well. At the moment I've got SamSet 1.2 running, but I'll switch when Paul brings out an r3 and JG5 of his ROM.
Guest kanzlr Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 I am undecided between the Palm Pre and the Galaxy, but Android phones improved a lot over the last few years, thats for sure.

Palm Pre has a ridiculous battery life. If you use it as your main phone, you will never reach late afternoons without charging it.

ZAnwar, I hope you dont mind me asking, I have had some little experience of installing custom roms with my old Hero, but the Hero did not have two "parts" like the SGS seems to. What is the r3 and JG5, do you know what they do/represent? Thanks, Mark.

JG5 is a ROM by Samsung, altough leaked and a beta, non-official one. r2 is a modification Paul did to the JG3 ROM (I think? or the JG1?) and is basically a custom MoDaCo ROM.

Ok cool, thanks... so then why would one need BOTH these ROMS, or is r3 a full rom that is based on JG5 ? tx Mark.

Fred, it looks like you've got half of your answer now anyway. I will just elaborate a little bit. From the little that I've understood, JG1, JG3 and JG5 (being the latest) are firmwares from Samsung themselves (in beta/testing form). Paul's current release 2 of his custom ROM is based on JG1. I was hoping for him to make a r3 release of his ROM but with updated JG5 internals. So essentially, you can either have stock Samsung ROMS which are JG5, etc, or you can have JG5 customised by people such as Paul with tweaks and enhancements and be called Modaco Custom ROMS (with r* (as in r1 or r2) signifying how far it is in its progress). I hope this makes it a little clearer. Edited July 21, 2010 by ZAnwar
