Trouble with the 3.5 TV out

Hi all,

I'm currently running Paul's R2 / JG1 on a european Galaxy S - and loving it.

However, I can't get the TV out thing to work, no matter what I try. The best I can get is a grey garbage screen (I can vaguely distinguish some familiar looking icon shapes sometimes)

The cable I'm using is an el cheapo "camcorder connection" 3.5 to Red/White/Yellow synch - is this what one is supposed to use? I tried switching yellow and red like some video and posts indicated - doesn't help.

Does anybody have the same kind of problem?

The 3.5mm Jack on the galaxy is of a proprietary design, so you have to buy cables designed specifically for it.

Are you sure? What cable do you use then? I checked, and Samsung does *not* manufacture any...

IIRC 3.5mm to 3x Phono cables designed to work with Nokia's also work fine with the Galaxy

I got it to work but had to mix the cables yellow did not go to yellow, red not to red and white not to white.

When the TV is set to right input, play a video on the phone and insert on cable at the time

Don't forget to check the TV out box in settings and chose pal or ntsc according to your TV.

The colours did not look so very good but OK.

(the 3.5mm plug was a little hard to get all the way in)

I can confirm that switching the red and yellow connection works great with my old Panasonic camcorder A/V cable ($1.29). Great sound and crystal clear picture!

Aww still no dice for me. I went and bought a more expensive cable - exact same result, just less money in my wallet.

My TV is also a Samsung TV - would it be that Galaxy Ss work somehow worse with Samsung TVs than with other brands?!? :(

Anybody have a working Galaxy S TV out on a Samsung TV?

im using a nokia tv out cable for the nokia n97..i get sound but no picture,,it works great on my omnia2...also my galaxy s is the att captivate,might have something to do with it not working??

As I mentioned earlier, my old basic Panasonic camcorder TV-Out works great when I swap the red and yellow lines. Nonetheless, I wanted a second cable to keep in my car for when I was away from home. So I ordered and just received a Nokia CA-75U (which adds a small box where the lines break out). Despite a number of people suggesting this was an ideal choice for the Galaxy S, mine actually did NOT work. I tried various combinations, swapping the connectors but only get static (with the image obscured and distorted) on the same Mitsubishi NTSC TV.

The non-working cable (from dealextreme.com) only put my out $5 so I'm not too worried. But I figured it was worth mentioning for others who are shopping for these. It may I was simply sent a defective cable. Or it's possible these suggestions were in error; perhaps the small box somehow varies the quality of the analog signals being carried across the four wires. Perhaps it's only compatible with PAL signals. ::shrug:: I would be curious to confirm if anyone else has successfully tested the Galaxy S with the Nokia CA-75U cable using NTSC. Or more broadly, what specific cables have the rest of you found to work (directly or swapped).

PS: The recent announcement of the Samsung MicroUSB to HDMI adapter/cable was an unexpected and very welcome surprise. I'll definitely be watching for deals on those too. Combined with DLNA streaming, it's great GPU, and numerous A/V formats, this really positions the Galaxy S as the ultimate media device.

well while I'm sorry for your cable problem, I'm a bit relieved- at least you see the same static I do, which means I just need to order a nokia cable on amazon :-)

Unfortunately I already bought two non-working cables :-(

Anyway, looking forward to the usb to hdmi cable :-)

For the record - I finally got to buying a Nokia branded CA-75U cable, and it works perfectly.

So if you get grey garbage, get another cable :D

yea...just as come people said...

all samsung phones that comes with tv-out capability will work with nokia's 3.5mm jack tv-out cables.

and also....ear pieces for nokia will also work with galaxy s. =D

I have the Nokia adapter too, and it works. Unfortunately, the TV screen is not fully used when I play video, there are black bars left and right. Anyone else have the same problem?

no, seems like your tv aint handling the auto zoom/pan properly, try pressing some buttons on the tv, or the button below on the right from the video player on your galaxy

somtime cable goes by standard colors but in some reason is 1 type of cables red is video
