Flashing to JG5 on the Galaxy S

Posted (edited)

Hi i've already purchased My Backup Pro, i've backed up all my apps and data but i noticed that when i backed up the "Apps" that it didnt back up the app that came pre installed by my carrier (Optus My Account) which allows me to check my data and phone usage.

I was told you lose all your data, but when i flash mine to JG5, will i lose the Optus MyAccount app (quite useful)??

Or is that part of my phone carriers ROM and because i didnt download that, it'll remain on the phone after i flash the firmware to JG5? (As i noticed My Backup Pro only backed up the apps i downloaded and installed myself).

Thoughts?

(I've done lots of research on the flashing itself, but im just wondering about this specific question.)

Thanks!

You will definitely lose it. Titanium backup might be able to backup the apk, but you'll need to be rooted. I can't guarantee that it will work though, sometimes carriers protect these apps, but odds are it will work...

anyone?

Yes you will lose that app probably (athough, you could back it up using the android SDK, which takes a lot more messing around).

HOWEVER, are you aware that Optus has a webpage where you can check your downloads? You could simply bookmark to it on the home screen. In fact, many of these carrier "additions" simply seem like links to a webpage.

What specifically from your optus ROM do you need? One important thing to keep in mind, is that if your phone is locked though, apparently flashing it is a bad idea.

How can you tell if the hand set is locked?
