Guest Paul Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 Welcome to 'Paul's App of the Day', where I pick one of my favourite apps as featured app of the day! Today's app is... Astrid What they sayAstrid is the highly-acclaimed open-source task list that is simple enough to not get in your way, powerful enough to help you get stuff done! Tags, reminders, RememberTheMilk sync, Locale plug-in & more! What we say Now, I wouldn't say i'm a disorganised person, just a busy person... which means I need to keep a task list in order to remember what I need to be working on and when. On the web, i'm quite a fan of RememberTheMilk but I also need a client on my device where I can quickly jot things down... and that's where Astrid comes in. Now, RememberTheMilk have their own official client for Android, which is free, but it needs a paid / Pro RTM account to work. Astrid is a bit clever - it can connect to RTM even if you have a standard account... which means a completely free solution! :( While it might not be quite as shiny as the official app, it is feature packed, can be used without RTM sync if desired and performs all the task management functions you could need quite admirably! Permissions ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION / INTERNET / READ_CALENDAR / READ_PHONE_STATE / VIBRATE / WRITE_CALENDAR / WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE / com.android.launcher.permission.INSTALL_SHORTCUT / com.timsu.astrid.permission.READ_TASKS Download View Astrid at AppBrain QRcode To use, install 'Barcode Scanner' from the Android Market. Price FREE Market star rating at time of writing 4.53 (18752 ratings) Version at time of writing 2.14.3 Similar / Alternative apps Also check out the official RTM client and GotToDo for ToodleDo. Suggested improvements for the next version I'd like the option to have a white on black colour scheme. Have your say Fan of Astrid? Found something better? Just wanna share your experiences? Post below! :(
Guest AndyCr15 Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 Just a heads up, I've had word from the developer they will be splitting to a free and paid app. Some features will be removed for the free app :( They say it will be in the region of 3.99, which is still good value for such a great app. My review - :(
Guest bewA Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 I use Dato GTasks (0.4.2, latest) which is free and syncs with Google Tasks :( It syncs with Google Tasks and is offline too :( You can pay from what i can see that removes ads :P it also has two widgets (2x2 & 4x2) which can be black/green/blue/yellow & white Agenda Widget also pulls info using this app too which is what i use :P Just thought i'd share B)
Guest bewA Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 It does reminders but it doesn't appear to do repeats. I'm not sure if that's a limitation of the app or Google Tasks it's self....
Guest bas-r Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 I must admit that I tried Astrid and it was too much for my task needs. Just like bewA I'm using GTasks now, and fully satisfied with that: especially with the Gmail integration.
Guest eddablin Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 I'd like to use google tasks but I like to sync with outlook tasks atm. I like this free program: http://www.sprinxcrm.com/SprinxCRM%20Outlo...20Milk/faq.html You can also get a RTM addin for gmail Can anyone else get gtasks syncing with outlook?
