Guest YoDJMC Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 (edited) Hi Folks O2 are changing my Streak after raising the issue of powering off frequently; they didn't put up much of a fight although said it wasn't a common problem with the streak. I've read a few people complaining about unexpected powering off. From my experiences its very much focused on how well the back cover is fitted to how sensitive the Dell is to certain taps. The battery cover on mine is dead straight, fits well and sits flush with the back (no bulges etc). There's also no rattles to note. However, if I tap the back like I was tapping you in the shoulder then it will power off - immediately (no warning or message). Usually it will require the battery to be removed to get it back on again, although occasionally it will power on without it. Because the battery cover has to come off often to get it the Dell powered on again then it does seem to make a difference to how sensitive it will be when it turns back on. Sometimes just placing on the table will switch it off, and other times it can go for 2-3 hours of handling and in shirt pockets, then power off when I bump into someone (note that its me that gets knocked, not the Dell, but it will power off). I assume it has something to do with the springy pins that have contact with the back, and presumably link to the dell to tell it when the cover is off. If others have a problem with this then Dell might have to do a firmware change to stop the Streak powering off. Of course I can't say if my problems are specific to my Streak or just a more prominent display of a trend that others have seen. Regards, YoDJMC. Edited July 23, 2010 by YoDJMC

Regards, YoDJMC. O2 change the Dell, and that seems to be working fine. I'm now scared to remove the back cover in case this a build problem caused by just removing the cover a few times. The back cover on the new one definitely seems a little tighter - but I seem to recall that was what it was like originally on my last one (not that it felt loose at all). Guest zwmg Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 Because of installing diff. ROMs I had to pull the battery cover a lot of times. I never had a problem and don't have it till now. Maybe just very few units.
