Late last evening it appeared that I had successfully updated my I9000 to firmware JG5. Today, when I turned the phone on, the screen instantly showed an icon of a mobile phone linked to a pc with an orange warning triangle between. I've tried hard resets, battery removal and normal power on/off but every time the phone freezes at this screen.

Any kind soul know how to overcome this problem or is it a trip to the nearest Samsung Service Centre?

I had that happen to me a few times. I just reflashed and it was fine after that.

Whenever I make a mistake, I go back to the original ROM (by flashing that again) which was on my phone to make sure it works fine :( Makes me feel all safe :(

How do you revert to the original firmware if it's not in Odin format?

It most likely will be in Odin format.

Go to Samsung-firmwares.com, they'll have all the firmwares there.

Mr.H

my Galaxy S had just gone into the same state as yours and luckily i found this thread.

In sheer panic, while the screen was displaying the yellow triangle as u mentioned, i pressed the vol down + home + power button a few times... on the 5 or the 6th attempt, it bounced back to the "Downloading" screen. I then plugged the Galaxy S back into the pc and ran odin... and everything went smooth after that.

I'm sorry if my tip doesn't work for you.. keeping my fingers crossed some of the gurus here can help u recover the phone rather than take it back to Samsung.

I also had this happen.

All you need to do is take the battery out (to turn it off completely), reinsert it and hold volume up + home + power to boot it into Downloading mode to flash a new firmware.

That's why it's very difficult to permanently brick the Galaxy S, since you can still always get it into downloading mode to flash via Odin. =)

Good luck!

For me JM2 and JG5 have worked flawlessly with the 512 PIT file, so perhaps try one of them. If one of the 512 or 512 pit files causes problems, just try the other.

That statement is very reassuring :(

This thread also discusses the same topic.

Good job by Samsung on that part..btw, it should be volume down + Home + Power button that gets you into the "Download" mode for flashing. Hope the OP has read this and gotten his SGS out of limbo.
