A mod that you apply to a flashed rom then the boot animation runs from /data/local and can be replaced manually or using boot animation changer.

Flash after any Sense rom that normally has bootanimation in /system/customize/resource

It will delete the 2 files in /system/customize/resource

Flash my own custom bootanimation.zip & android_audio.mp3 to /data/local/ (Only to make sure it works)

create the required symlinks that survive reboot's.

You can then just replace the files in /data/local/ as needed.

Thanks to lambrospower for the idea

[edit]

BootAnim_Restore added, restores the default htc bootanimation.zip & android_audio.mp3 to /system/customize/resource

BootAmin_to_Data.zip

BootAnim_Restore.zip

stupid question - do you use shell to replace bootanimations or some kind of application? if so - what is it and where to get it? :(

Does not work for me... The new animation is still placed in /system/customize/resource/ :(

Using: 20/Jul r5 - MoDaCo Custom ROM for HTC Desire with Online Kitchen - Froyo with Sense (FRF91)

Any suggestions to make it work? :(

This 'mod' creates sym links to /system/customize/resource/ but the files should be read from /data/local

Check /system/customize/resource/ to see if the links were made.

@those who want to restore

Just take the zip's from the rom's image and place them in /data/local

or use the package added to the first post.

Ahhh... Still a "root noob" :( So I have to put "bootanimations.zip" into /data/local an it will be replaced, but I don't see any files there after installing the mod, right? :(

You should.

You are flashing in recovery?

You should.

You are flashing in recovery?

Hmmm... Yes I do, with ClockworkMod :(

EDIT Just tried again, result: /data/local/ is empty

Thanks! :)

I've been searching for a way to manage the start animation and sound, and this seems to do it. The default ones bug me and I'm annoyed that Google / HTC don't allow users to manage this! :)

Installation was a breeze. But I'm still yet to play around with copying different sounds an animations into the /data/local folder, but seems to work so far...

HTC Desire. Android 2.2 rooted. Using Root Explorer to manage files.

BTW, I had to reset the permissions on the target files (.mp3 and .zip) in /data/local folder to allow root user read (e.g. rw-rw-rw-) in order for this to work for me.

I also move and symlink the bravo-keypad.kl & Framework to /data/local/

But I must be crazy. :)

Should this work with r9? Because I just tried it (flashed r9, selected no custom boot image in the kitchen) and then flashed this in recovery, but I still get the same old default "ANDROID" bootanimation (blackscreen, with just the word ANDROID and a light shimmer running over it)

this is a good idea. but the boot animation on the R9 rom is in /system/media/

is there any chance someone can make a flashable zip to symlink this to /system/customise so that it will work with the boot animation flash tool.

Thanks

maybe there are different r9 versions, because in mid-september the bootanimation cleary was in /data/local and a symlink

in the rom

symlink /data/local/bootanimation.zip SYSTEM:customize/resource/bootanimation.zip

not in /system/media

so maybe paul can shed some light on this if/when it changed?
