the easiest way to get samung kies working, is to run the default samsung home ... and then, when you plug the phone on USB, samsung kies works ...

to switch between home you can download home switcher from market

I have the same problem, I cannot connect to Kies and I have the default touchwiz enabled and as unique home... I have tried to connect with the home not in locked screen, before and after start Kies, but the PC never see my phone! I can only connect via USB mass storage. I haven't a SD card yet...

My firmware is I9000XXJF5, I have tried with Windows 7 and Vista

A few tips that should lead to a successful Kies connection every time...

1. Make sure you are running the TouchWiz launcher.

2. In the SD settings screen, unmount the external SD card (if you have one).

3. If you are a user of the app SoundHound, delete the SoundHound directory from the internal SD card. It contains a number of cache files that have odd file extensions - these stop Kies form working.

Cheers,

Dan
