Hello,

I've been working on a website that is better structured to find tutorials and downloads for our phones. I've started the website primarily focusing on the T-Mobile Pulse (as that is my phone), but other phones can be added.

I've added all of the ROMs/Downloads that have been posted on MoDaCo, with the obligatory forum link (as I do not intend to take credit for any other peoples work). I've also started copying some guides from the "Official Pulse Owners Handbook" thread, but will not do anymore until I have obtained permission.

I'm happy to change the licencing of the site content to whatever people want (e.g. creative commons, open source documentation etc.)

I was thinking about hosting the custom ROMs on my Amazon S3 account, so we don't have to use those annoying file sharing download sites. I'll see how much this may end up costing me, so would be open to small donations).

I currently provide sections for phone manufacturers (Huawei, HTC), phones/devices (Pulse), ROMS/Downloads (FLB-Mod, MCR) as well as individual release pages for each ROM/Download. Finally, there is a Guides section (that is very empty at the moment).

Again, I don't want to tread on anyones toes here, especially the good people at MoDaCo. I am happy to add/change/remove any content on my site as appropriate. I am also happy to partner/affiliate with MoDaCo if possible (I am a paid MoDaCo ad-free user).

Anyways... The site is: http://www.androidguide.co.uk

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Yes. The content is lacking at the moment. Just been working on setting up the relationships and getting all the list view filters working correctly. I have a lot of content to add, but am hoping to get some members to help with this.

Great work. At last all the real stuff you need in one place, without having having to trawl through loads of posts (some of which dont add a great deal to the thread).

Keep up the good work!!!

Please note that this portion of the Guide is only for those using a T-Mobile Pulse (U8220). This will NOT work for those using a U8320 or a U8220-6. Please check the label located under the battery to determine your version.

Difficulty Level: 1/5 (very easy)

What You Will Need

T-Mobile Pulse

Micro SD Card (Recommended to have at least 1gb free space)

Micro USB Cable or An Micro SD Card Reader

Caution

Please note that installing this update will wipe everything off your phone. (Contacts, messages, apps etc.) Please ensure that you back them up if required. Your SD card will not be wiped before, during or after the update process.

The Available internal phone memory will be reduced to 40mb (Down from 80+mb)

You will be able to install less apps.

Instructions

Prepare your phone, backup anything you need to the SD card or computer. Note that everything will be wiped off your phones internal memory.

Download the Official 2.1 update file .

Extract the contents of the ZIP file to any location on your computer. Place the entire "dload" folder onto the Root of your SD card. By "Root" I mean do not place the file in any subfolders.

Power off your Device. When the phone has fully powered off press and hold the following buttons: POWER + RED (End Call) + VOLUME UP. You may release these buttons when the message "Preparing Update" appears on your screen.

Confirm that you wish to update and allow the device to run it's course. The phone may get stuck on "Restarting" if so wait a few minutes then remove and re-insert the battery. If your phone "Fails to Update" Please refer to the FAQ [here]

Allow your phone 5+ minutes to boot up for the first time. You may experience some lag / force closes and some other errors. This is normal at this stage. If your phone Fails to boot or gets stuck in a "Boot Loop" Please refer to the FAQ [here]

Optional Step

If you are planning on installing a Custom Rom DO NOT FOLLOW THESE OPTIONAL STEPS. Please proceed to the following guide [here]

If you are NOT Planning on installing a Custom rom on your device and wish to keep it official please follow these steps

Step 7: Open your phones SD card via your computer, delete the "dload" folder

Step 8: Go back to where you extract the 2.1 update. Open the CUSTOMIZED_HU folder and copy the "dload" folder to the root of your SD card

By "Root" I mean do not place the file in any subfolders

Step 9: Power off your Device. When the phone has fully powered off press and hold the following buttons: POWER + RED (End Call) + VOLUME UP

You may release these buttons when the message "Preparing Update" appears on your screen

Step 10: Confirm that you wish to update and allow the device to run it's course. The phone may get stuck on "Restarting" if so wait a few minutes then remove and re-insert the battery

If your phone "Fails to Update" Please refer to the FAQ [here]

Step 11: Allow your phone 5+ minutes to boot up for the first time. Your phone is now ready to use. Enjoy your new official 2.1 Pulse!

If your phone Fails to boot or gets stuck in a "Boot Loop" Please refer to the FAQ [here]

If you're going to copy and paste my guide word for word you could at least link-back and give credits :(

Sorry. The site isn't finished yet, and is not ready for public consumption. I literally just copied and pasted some guide text into the site to give it some structure. I have every intention of giving credit to the producers of the guide (if they permit me to use it).

Also, the copyright notice is just a standard footer that appears within my base Drupal installation. I am going to change the licencing of the site to some form of creative commons licence.

EDIT: I've just added credit information and a link back as requested. Also, just changed the site to a creative commons share alike licence. Do I have your permission to include the rest of your guide? or would you prefer a straightforward link?

Yeah sure :(

I have no problem with you using my guide as long as credits are given on every page it's displayed on :(

Thanks for the permission and thanks for being so understanding. It wasn't my intention to deprive anybody of credit where it's due. When I get around to it, I'll copy the rest of the articles across.

Yes. If you could point out which drivers you want hosting/linking to, I'll be happy to add them. I'm an Ubuntu Linux user, so don't need drivers for my phone. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

Just a quick update to say I've added the latest FLB-Mod (v1.2) to Android Guide (www.androidguide.co.uk).

If anyone is interested, you can access the latest releases via RSS, so you can find out when your latest favourite ROM is released:

Cheers!

Cheers BigBear.

I've just added a "Star Rating" to each ROM release too, so people can vote for their best ROM. I won't be enabling comments or anything, as I think MoDaCo Forums should be used for discussions. I am trying to link back to the appropriate MoDaCo forum link where possible.

I'm planning on creating a Developer/Contributor section and link each person to their contribution (ROM, Guide, etc.). This means that all the main contributors (Yourself, Flibblesans, Paul, etc.) can each have their own page, with links to their contributions, contact details, donation links etc.

If you have any ideas/suggestions, let me know.

Cheers!

There is a thread here for win xp, vista and win 7 drivers for Pulse. Ogigio started this thread.

Thanks for that. I've added a new download category (Drivers) and have added the appropriate content. I've credited Ogigio as the author.

Oh, while I'm at it...

I am currently using Google Apps for Domains for handling email on "androidguide.co.uk". If anyone wants an "androidguide.co.uk" email address, please let me know. I have a total of 45 accounts remaining, but intend to reserve 10 or so for official contributors and site maintainers.

Nice effort, can you put December update up there too. T-mobile removed the link from their site but the download is still available from http://support.t-mobile.co.uk/library/TMOB...th_Userdata.zip

Edit: nevermind, just saw that you already put the December update there

Can you put the "timemachine" update there too? Thanks

It was already on there. You'll find it under the "T-Mobile Android 2.1 (Official)" release (as although it restores to 1.5, it is an update intended to run on an upgraded 2.1 device).

http://www.androidguide.co.uk/release/android-15-downgrade

Also, added new FLB-Mod v1.31 release and Flibblesan's new Community Custom ROM.
