Fixing the market

For some reason my market app stopped downloading several weeks ago. I got a chance to look at it tonight. Really didn't want to loose all my modifications (it's heavily customized rom) so I backed up and restored an image from a month ago with the same result (no downloading possible in the market) so I restored back to my latest and then formatted cache and data. Now the market works but obviously I loose all my data, but at least I know it wasn't the rom hacking that stopped it from working.

I've now restored my old data and cache partitions to get my apps back, but something in here is stopping the market from working. I've tried the usual "Google Talk", "Delete market cache", etc.

My 'cache' is 13.4MB, which seems kinda high, so I'd like to investigate this.

'Data' is 61MB

Am I right in assuming that the nandroid .img files can be extracted with something like unyaffs?

Any tips what to look for?

Have you changed your google ID or password? Probably doesn't apply to you but here in the UK Google offered users to change their IDs from googlemail.com to gmail.com but this broke the Market etc on their phones. They had to revert back to their old IDs

My account has always been @gmail.com from the date I opened it, so I've never changed that.

I've deleted the dalvik cache with no results. I was wondering what the 'cache' partition stored and whether I could delete that, but at 13MB it must be storing something...

When I had the user ID problem the setup wizard stopped working for me. I found that I had to delete the following file and reboot:

/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db

Obviously take a back up if you want to try this.

If you are running FLB then you can try the market fix available in FLB Custom Scripts.

My ROM is a heavily hacked up version of the official HU ROM.
