GPS in use when phone turned on

Hey there - I'm having a (non)issue, when I turn on my phone and sense is booting, the GPS is in use and locked onto a satalite. I was wondering, does anyone know of any apps which can tell you what is using what on the phone, so I can find out what is using the GPS and why it needs to know my location etc? Or am I just being a n00b and it's the OS using it during boot?
