How long do you need to leave it at 2011 before it starts the update?

What radio version is supplied with the Official Orange ROM?

I'm thinking I might install that as the one I have now is a bit rubbish. (It looked better initially but its actually worse in most places)

Has anyone pulled the Radio out of this Rom yet?

I have done the update by advancing the date by 1 year and can confirm that this worked.

The sad thing for me is that I did this on my newly aquired Hero that I got on Orange Insurance on Tuesday after accidentally damaging my original one which worked prefectly.

This new one has a fault with the earpice vibrating when someone speaks to you during a call so its got to go back. Bugger!

Hopefully the new one will also apply the update. Watch this space...

Hi sorry, can I repeat the question from my post above. My friend tried this on his Orange branded hero and nothing happened. So all he needs to do is advance the calender date by 1 year to 2011? How long after changing the date does it take for the update to be sent to the phone?

For me, what happened is as follows:

Phone delivered by courier and then I attached it to my wireless network. At this point it came pre installed with Android 1.5. I then proceeded to start setting up my phone and reinstalling all my required apps. During this time the phone prompted me for an Orange OTA (Over The Air) update. This still left me with the Android 1.5 Operating System after the obligatory reboot. Later on once my installs and set up was complete I then realised that I no longer had the Facebook App and could not find it on the Android Market. This is because it is only available to phones running a later operating system than 1.5. I'm sure some of the good bods on here will be able to say which one.

I really wanted the FB app I had before so I started looking at the forums and eventually ended up finding out that I needed a newer spec OS.

After trawling round various forums I spotted some threads saying that users had incremented the date by 1 year to 2011 and the Orange 2.1 updates were installed. Since I had nothing to loose I gave it a try and within about 5 mins of incrementing the date to 2011 I was prompted for another OTA update. It looked as though it installed twice and after one particular reboot it took ages to get to the homescreen but eventually the phone rebooted to an Android 2.1 screen. It had retained all my installed apps and even my security config and PIN numbers etc had not been altered of impeded my access to the phone.

To be honest I think the genuine Orange Android 2.1 is little slower than 1.5 on the Hero but if you want all the current versions of the Apps then you have to bite the bullet.

As I type this my second replacement Hero has now arrived. We shall see if it does the same thing as I will be changing the date prior to installing any apps. Watch this space again...

All done. After setting the date to 2011 it took a little while but it eventually picked up the first update and installed it. About 20 mins later It picked up the second one which I made a note of.

On my screen it said it was installing OTA Update uk_3.35.61.2.2.73.61.92_release311e0b8qlz8b8r6.zip if that is of any use to anyone.

I now have a 2.1 phone with which to now set up from scratch.

Hope this is of use.
