Guest djinferno806 Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 So like the title says, my mail notification for sms's doesnt flash anymore now that i switched over to handcent sms. I wouldnt really have a problem with this except that im worried about my battery draining alot faster now that the led just stays on. Is there a workaround for this problem? Otherwise i could just turn off the led notification from within the program i guess. thanks.
Guest Elisha82 Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 I just noticed that as well. Gonna try Chomp SMS.
Guest djinferno806 Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 already tried chomp, does the same thing

Guest dennerjw Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 The amount of power that tiny led uses makes absolutely no difference on your battery.
Guest Elisha82 Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 There's no LED setting for the stock SMS client so nothing to disable other than the task bar notification and the ringtone.

As long as thats true then i dont really have a problem. Is this fact? Can anyone else say theyve had this and it hasnt affected battery? @Dastisu, Im running .39 BIN with LCR 1.8 on top. I dont have the stock messaging app anymore, ive removed it completely so it wouldnt interfere. Perhaps bringing it back would be a good idea. Does anybody know the name of the stock sms app? I can just do an adb install on it from one of the ROM files.

Well yes, it does. If I don't disables the stock messaging notification my LED wont turn of with nothing else than a reboot. I also use .39 and LCR 1.8. Earlier I also had problems with the popup of handcent, it also made my LED always on.

But i have come to prefer it this way since you can instantly tell when you get a new message (as opposed to having to wait one second :))
Guest djinferno806 Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 im still worried about the extra battery drain. Does anyone have any proof as to whether it negatively impacts battery or not?
Guest D.Rosendahl Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 im still worried about the extra battery drain. Does anyone have any proof as to whether it negatively impacts battery or not? No proof but: Of course it will increase the battery drain. And of course it will be so small difference that it will not be measurable. First think about the tiny led lights with small batteries that exist. Those works a looooong time. (http://dragon-tai.manufacturer.globalsources.com/si/6008824846276/pdtl/Bicycle-accessory/1029841288/Bicycle-LED-Light.htm) And then think about how much smaller this led is compered to the ones on the lamps. It will NOT make a measurable difference, other things will differ more. Fast calculation: 1 led at 1-3 mW (0.3-1 mA at 3V), I think this is maximum for a led like this, probably alot less. The battery is about 5000 mWh which means that the led drains 0.02-0.06% battery each hour or 0.4-1.2% on 24 hour.
Guest Master_T Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 im still worried about the extra battery drain. Does anyone have any proof as to whether it negatively impacts battery or not? Don't loose your sleep over it, LEDs power drainage is so tiny compared to the rest of the phone that it won't make any difference. Actually, I'd prefer to have the "Lost call" icon always on as well, there's more chance I'd notice it... anyone know any way to do that?
