Guest Thomas55 Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 Well its time to say goodbye to my pulse, it was a great little starter phone for android but it is simply too slow especially with 2.1. Its up on ebay if anyone wants to take a look: - link removed - Thanks to all the community in this part of the forum, i have read lots of useful information that allowed me to get the most out out the phone, a big thanks to bobo as well, the 2.1 leak was awesome.

Please do not directly link to ebay. You can open up a thread in the ebay section of the forum and link to this thread in your post. Nya I hope you are more satisfied with your new phone : ) Best regards, BB
Guest Speckles Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 Although I agree that the Pulse is an excellent "Introduction to Android" (processor is probably fine, I think its the memory that holds it back), I'm going to be keeping mine for a bit longer as I simply can't bring myself to spend £400+ on a different phone. Which phone are you buying? And why not keep the Pulse as a backup? You can throw it on a PAYG quite easily. If I could bring myself to spend £400 on a phone, I know quite a few places where I think a phone is essential, but I wouldn't dream of taking such a phone, such as rock climbing and canyoning (already ruined two previous phones doing that :))
Guest Thomas55 Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 (edited) Im getting a HTC Desire on contract, managed to sell it to the folks that it will be "essential" for when i go to uni in september :). Edited August 1, 2010 by Thomas55
Guest Speckles Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 Nice, might want to make sure you take out the optional insurance too :)
Guest Daz555 Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 Well its time to say goodbye to my pulse, it was a great little starter phone for android but it is simply too slow especially with 2.1. It's faster on 2.1 - significantly so in my experience.
Guest Azurren Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 Nice, might want to make sure you take out the optional insurance too :D Yeah and add another £10+ per month.. :) They don't want to pay out either Imo the pulse is a terrible phone. If you use any other android phone (Minus the G1 maybe) you will see just how much the pulse sucks.. You'll never want to go back :D Thus why I have been searching for a cheap Spica ever since I got my hands on one

They're really good phones :D T-Mobile calls it the Portal though.

Guest Azurren Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 (edited) :D :D Well.. It is.. Honestly.. This is not what android is supposed to be like :P The home launcher is never meant to close down, menus should be instant, apps should take no longer than 1-2 seconds, good apps open instantly. Your Browser should be saved, able to be re-opened instantly at any given time.. The camera shouldn't leave messy lines in all your photos. You shouldn't need to flash a custom rom every other week to make the phone usable (No offense. It's the FLB mod that actually makes the phone usable). You shouldn't have to resort to buggy hacks such as appstosd to be able to use android You shouldn't have to close your browser to skip a song track. You should be able to answer a text / talk message while multitasking anything. The music player shouldn't close when you answer a text message.. YOU SHOULD RECEIVE ALL CALLS AND TEXT MESSAGES! I think you can guess I have stopped kidding myself, trying to convince myself that this is a good phone. Hell I've even considered "Upgrading" to the pulse mini! (The screen is unable for anyone with man-sized figures but hell! It is what android should be!) :) /Rant Oh and on a side note.. Spica owners complain about the fact that when a picture is taken in landscape it isn't auto rotated. Hero owners complain that the HTC sense ui isn't 100% fluid. Nexus owners complain that the screen isn't 100% clear, that the camera doesn't take 720p video. WTF? Those are some of the only faults their owners experience! Edited August 2, 2010 by Azurren

All I wanted is a cheap Android experience and first MCR and now FLB only made it better. In my opinion it was well worth because to get all of the above, I will possibly need to spend betwee 2 to 3 times of the money. I am hoping if or when we get Froyo, it will only extend life out of this phone.
Guest DanWilson Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 RANT SKIPPED Well, I quite like the phone. Don''t get me wrong, it's very slow and a bit buggy, but it's better than my old W810i innit? For the price, I think it's a brilliant little phone, comparing it to a Nexus One, a G1, a Hero, it's impossible, the price difference is a bit much!

If you want a quicker Android experience then buy a quicker phone with a faster processor and more ram. The G1 has the same 'issues' you report and even my friends Hero can take several seconds to load an app it many are already open. I think personally you are expecting way too much from a budget Android phone.

I'm really sore at the moment seeing as how I got it on a cheaper contract than my Pulse :)
Guest Simon O Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 Fibblesan I got my mum a Spica.. I'm really sore at the moment seeing as how I got it on a cheaper contract than my Pulse :) It's always the way. So many good phones now on cheap contracts. I'm tempted by the Samsung Galaxy S myself.

I could have got a DESIRE for 20 more bucks ... :D That REALLY p****d me off ... :D

If you have never used a fast android phone before believe me you don't know what your missing until you actually use one :) But then it really hurts if you have to go back to using the Pulse :D @Bigbear I could have got a desire for £17pm.. Maybe not as good as yours but at the time I knew the desire was 1000 times greater than the pulse but I didn't truly know how much the pulse sucked Edited August 2, 2010 by Azurren
Guest Simon O Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 Not until we have FLB-Froyo-v1.0 though eh? :) I won't abandon the Pulse if I got a new phone. I just want something quicker to use.

Used the Nexus One and my Pulse feels slow in comparison. That was the catalyst which made me start work on my own rom.

That was the catalyst which made me start work on my own rom. Yeah.. :) I was under the impression that "The Pulse is a good phone for the money".. HELL NO! If someone were to do a price to performance on all android phones you will find just how bad it is.. For a little extra you could get a Hero.. For the same Price you could get a Spica. I used to kid myself that the Pulse is a good phone for the money! It may have been the cheapest android phone but compare that to laptops! The cheapest laptop (Single core, 1gb ram, sis gfx) £250 vs a mid range laptop (Dual core, 3gb ram ati dedicated gfx) £400. You could say "Oh that laptop is great for the price". But price vs performance and you've just wasted a load of your hard earned cash. Examples, not real laptops There you are struggling to watch youtube videos, unable to play games / watch HD while the other guy steamrolls you Sorry to really bang-on about this but I just want to get the point across that this isn't a good phone of the price. Hell if we can even call it a phone with the Call and SMS issues (Yes the sms issue isn't present with 1.5 but the call issue is) Edited August 2, 2010 by Azurren

Otherwise it's really a pain in ass to install custom roms.
