Well finally got my desire back, 3 week wait, its a long time believe me. Until you don't have a smart phone you don't realise how much you miss them, anyway to cut a long story short the car phone warehouse sent it off to HTC for warranty repair, they said they would get back to me when its comes back, sadly they never I had to call them, anyway after the 3 week wait HTC replaced the handset with a brand new one, I mean WTF 3 weeks to find out they can't fix the problem.

The new handset comes with 2.2 and HBOOT 0.92 so unless its possible to root that HBOOT version which it wasn't before I took the phone in for repair, which I have yet to find out guess I am stuck with a bog standard Desire

I have seen people saying they're been able to downgrade HBOOT from 0.92, but I don't know the details.

If it's still an AMOLED screen and a generic WWE Desire (check the ROM version, if it's 2.09.405.8 then it is) then you can roll it back to 0.80 - guides are on XDA (and here I think)

Probably costs more to investigate (let alone fix) than it does to just give you a new phone for free, hence the new handset.

yeah i agree but 3 weeks is a piss take. Anyway I re-rooted now using the link I posted couple of posts up, didn't work with windows 7 x64 with unrevoked3 but did under Linux.

I had the same problems with my Desire. Random reboots and the phone got real hot while charging, using gps, wifi, etc.

It was returned after two weeks with a print-out of two pages (Willtek 4201 Mobile Tester Autotest, http://www.testwall.com/products/product.1...tek-4201S.html).

This is basically a long list of power input and outputs of the wireless components, as far as I can tell.

However, there was no mention of the repairs that were done. The phone wasn't replaced, as it still had my screen protector on it, but I suppose the wireless or all of the internal components were replaced.

The Desire was still on Android 2.1, even though the 2.2 update was already available at the time. The bootloader did change from 0.75 to 0.83.

I then did the offical upgrade to 2.2 with bootloader 0.93. I downgraded to 0.80, re-rooted with UnRevoked and now I'm running the MCR r8 for a couple of weeks without problems.

My theory is that the (wireless) components of my Desire got damaged somehow by intensive use the months before. I use it regularly for navigation in my car while playing podcasts through Listen. I guess this will seriously stress your phone. Anyone else have similar experiences?
