Guest Edward.W Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 Just read a news from Engadget, The Chinese version one http://chinese.engadget.com/2010/07/27/ace...ys-exclusive-a/ Does it means we can get a (official) dump of Stream? :)
Guest djinferno806 Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 the native UI performs garbage as per the video. hopefully somebody will be able to put a vanilla 2.1 on it. also the screen performance seems really bad. They are saying its an amoled yet it looks like a regular tft, all the blacks are washed out :s the galaxy s clearly has a better screen
Guest Edward.W Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 That is one ugly phone. That three buttons are really...... :D sucks! :)
Guest HustlinDaily Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 Good thing they didn't keep the name Liquid Stream. That would have been an embarrassment.

Guest gbrowley Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 Names will affect the first impression of the customers, so do Acer think it's a bad name for"Liquid Stream" :D I think its a horrible name, for a horrible looking phone. Acer was on a good track with the Liquid design wise, but looks like they've gone and ruined it. Liquid stream, first thing that pops into my mind is pee :) A liquid stream...

They are saying its an amoled yet it looks like a regular tft, all the blacks are washed out :s the galaxy s clearly has a better screen Blacks ARE black, but the apps list looked "washed out" as it has a stippled background with a gradient which you can't see on the video which makes it look so. The Galaxy S may have a better screen, haven't used one to compare, but the Stream's screen is superior to the N1 and Desire. The UI is not laggy at all when you actually press the icons properly, and the screen sensitivity is adjustable.
Guest FloatingFatMan Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 That three buttons are really...... :D sucks! :) Those 3 buttons are for media playback only. FFWD, REW and Pause/Play. Saves you having to turn the screen on when changing tracks etc.
Guest dennerjw Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 Those 3 buttons are for media playback only. FFWD, REW and Pause/Play. Guest FloatingFatMan Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 3 useless buttons that make the phone almost a cm longer... doesn't seem like a good design decision to me. "Useless" is relative. If you use the phone a lot for media, they're quite useful.
Guest dennerjw Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 "Useless" is relative. If you use the phone a lot for media, they're quite useful. Good point... To each his own :)
Guest Delnar_Ersike Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 "Useless" is relative. If you use the phone a lot for media, they're quite useful. Well, that's why you have lock screen widgets, no? Ah well, it's a matter of taste... still, IMO they should have put them on the side like the Nokia XpressMusic series had them. Oh, and can I say that I'm definitely not a fan of having the notification bar at the bottom of the screen than at the top? Not only does it look funky, there's also a chance that the user will press one of the capacitive buttons when trying to open the notification bar. And it's sad IMO how the Stream's screen is barely larger than the Liquid's: the difference is .2 inches diagonal, which is a 5mm difference. Bottom line: this phone is going to suck with the official ROM, with a Home replacement and/or a custom ROM it'll be decent, but based on the price versus how good the specs are, I'd say people are better off spending a bit more (or a bit less, should the price increase, which I think it will) and getting a Samsung Galaxy S. Spec-for-spec comparison of the two phones: http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPho...p;idPhone2=3358

I prefer Acer change the media keys to the left/right handside of the phone. :) P.S: The spec is quite attractive to me, but the price will also affect my consideration. :D
Guest Raskell Posted September 27, 2010 Report Posted September 27, 2010 The Stream screen is a step above the HTC Desire. Had them both running side by side this weekend. The contrast, clarity and overall legibility on the Stream is easier on the eyes (at least my older ones!). The Stream is also conspicuously lighter weight and as a result, feels less substantial. I'm still trying to understand why our feeble minds are biases to thinking that a heavier device somehow equates to 'better' although that is my first impression. The stream is everybit as fast and responsive as the Desire, even though it is running 2.1 on Stream and 2.2 on Desire. Can hardly wait for the 2.2 update to come out for the Stream to see how it does in an apples-for-apples test. By the way, got the Stream from Expansys-USA, working on AT&T 1900 3G in my area. Desire has been dreadfully slow on 850MHz in my area (on Edge).
