More MoDaCo Sub-Menus required?

Paul: Whilst I have no desire to interfere with the marvellous way this site seems to work (if used properly), nevertheless as a self-confessed "Beginner/Newbie/" Member, is it perhaps time to create further sub-menus for:

a) Those who have "hacked" (ok - call it whatever you like) their phones;

;) Those who have not

(Different SIM cards; different Updates; different etc., etc.)

Different phones (lets call them "virgin" and "non-virgin") can do different things.

Lots of threads on this site are extremely confusing due to different levels of (is it Hardware or Sofware)??

Furthermore, we have members posting from all around the globe, all with (slightly) different versions. This can only get even more confusing as the SPV/Tanager (or whatever it may be called - now and in the future) gets marketed further afield.

Would it be an idea to at least make it compulsory for all new members (preferrably also existing members to update) to at least show their country of origin in their profiles?

It would certainly assist me in deciding whether or not to act on advice given (in utmost good faith), before I (or some other non-techie member) act and potentially wreck my/their phone (or their warranty, or their Service Agreement, etc.,etc).

Just my thoughts. Keep up all the good work.

Sorry if I'm repeating myself, but just thought this should go under the "Main" menu also, to give more technical aware members an idea as to how complex this site can seem to a "Newbie" :!:

(My original post as below was in the "Beginners" menu).

Oops

2nd post above should have gone into "Main" menu! Never mind - I give up for now!

(At least it looks like I've got the hang of quotes - even though I can't re-direct them where I want them) :!:

I thought of this one as well but more in the way of eg making sub-menus in the customization folder for homescreens, ringtones etc.

I don't think that locked and unlocked users should be seperated, as there are apps that both of them can use and questions both of them could ask.

The problem here is (as I have noticed so far) that this sub-division would require a _very_ organised group of posters (we have what 2500+) or very high maintenance. As you can see even with a fairly 'simple' division things are posted sometimes randomly and without actually belonging to a certain group. I find it hard to go through all the sections checking out 'red folders' and posting answers. Splitting customisation is not the best thing to do as far as my mind goes, since it would add to the confusion. Some posts fall under more than 1 category and the more cat.s we have, the more topics will be valid under more than 1. More confusion.

Regarding Locked/Unlocked info per user, that I assume can be made and appear on the left of the post by a user with their other stats. Regional seperation is possible and is already implemented in a way - you can specify your location in 'Profile', but as it seems hardly anyone botheres to put in that info..

I may be wrong, but I think if this place needs something that is removing a category like tips/tricks.. It is mostly the same as 'main' and plenty of topics in main can be transferred to tips/tricks.

I think that in response to similar posts to your, P created a Beginners section, which should address all the confusion to newer members of the forum. But I agree that it is getting confusing with more and more posts coming in... By the way, have you noticed that actual 'topic name' often does not represent the original post?? We ask for these things to be looked into by members, but no pressure, and it still happens often. Same with double posts.

If you struggle with anything on the forum, I guess best thing to do is either PM someone who posted answers/similar questions or use Beginners section. Searching helps too. Anyway, my post's long enough... Good luck
