Screen scratch removal (success!)

As many know the Gorilla glass is far from scratch proof. I myself has a 3mm long scratch on my screen which really ruined the phone for me.

Using Cerium Oxide paste and a Dremel that was locked (so it didnt rotate) and a polishing wheel i have successfully removed the scratch by rubbing the paste over the scratch in circular movements. It took ages because i didnt press too hard, but the result is no more scratch!

Its worth a try if you have an annoying scratch. Cerium Oxide can be bough on eBay quite cheaply.

Careful with polishing, anything your nail can catch is too deep to polish out without causing an optical distortion. It may not be too visible though as we look at the screen perpendicular so you've probably done the right thing. If I had a scratch, I'd try covering it with a screenprotector first. Its adhesive may fill the scratch.

It didn't polish it out, its smoothed the edges so that its optically invisible. The 'rainbow' effect the scratch had is gone and now you cannot see it when the screen is on, which is what really counts.

Thanks for the post. I was thinking of using a scratch remover. But I think my scratch is too deep... so much for "gorilla glass" .. I got this from it just being in my pocket..... :)

Its worth a try, but use masking tape around the screen so you dont get the paste into the gaps.

My scratch was quite deep as well, which is why i cant remove it entirely. The screen is no longer completely flat, there is a slight valley in it, but you only see it if you hold the phone at an angle with the screen off. When on its like it was never there.

Its not as good as having a new screen, but its much better than a very distracting scratch.
