I've been reading about the reasons for FPS capping on Android devices, in particular the HTC Evo 4G and of course the streak.

It seems that we're capped to 30 because of the HDMI out port - (see this article), but with custom ROMs has come the ability to remove that FPS cap resulting in the 4G climbing to nearer 60fps. This gives added performance with touch screen responsiveness as touches are rendered back twice as fast.

I don't intend on using my HDMI out any time soon, so feel that I've been shafted a bit here and that my phone isn't all that it could be.

My question is: does anyone know how we (or I) can go about removing the FPS cap? Will it be deep in the ROM somewhere, or possible a setting in a file somewhere?

Excellent question maskaler, I'm pretty sure that this has been done in CM6

I'm just hoping that the US release isnt delayed any longer, then the device will get a lot more attention from the ROM devs and maybe even get a Cyanogen port.

have you got a link to how it's been removed in the evo ?

we can start to have a play with it if I know where it is....

Here's one about the hack which links to a ROM with a custom kernel which has removed the FPS cap, as well as a discussion on XDA devs. They can only remove the cap on certain devices based on the brand of LCD, so not sure what this means for Streak owners, however hopefully it's a good starting point?

Did anyone get anywhere with this? Now people are trying to get 2.2 and Dell have released the source code is there a higher chance of someone finding this?
