Installing APKs from Other ROMs

Hey guys, I was just wondering how to install other APKs from ROMs.. For example:

I want Android's Contacts and Phone, as they look nicer and are easier to use. The HTC one is nice yes, and I do like the quick dialing feature so I will keep that on my phone also.

Basically.. How would I flash it to my ROM as I've tried installing the .apk through the Package Installer (thought I'd give it a go just incase).

Should I make an update.zip file with Contact.apk and Phone.apk within the system\app\ folder, then place the update.zip on the SD Card and update it through ClockworkRecovery?

You could try, but some apps might have dependencies on the other ROM's framework files and such...
