Guest Paul Posted August 6, 2010 Report Posted August 6, 2010 Welcome to 'Paul's App of the Day', where I pick one of my favourite apps as featured app of the day! Today's app is... Glympse What they sayGlympse is the easy way to safely share your location in realtime. No sign-up needed. No social network to manage. Just send a Glympse to anyone via email, SMS, Facebook, or Twitter. What we say A very useful application for sharing your location in realtime with other users either mobile or on their desktop browser. It's nice to arrive home and have a cup of tea waiting right? :D Permissions ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION / ACCESS_COARSE_UPDATES / ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION / ACCESS_WIFI_STATE / CAMERA / CHANGE_WIFI_STATE / INTERNET / READ_CONTACTS / READ_SMS / RECEIVE_SMS / SEND_SMS / WAKE_LOCK Download View Glympse at AppBrain Direct Market Link (for on device)View on Android Market QRcode To use, install 'Barcode Scanner' from the Android Market. Price FREE Market star rating at time of writing 4.497 (1269 ratings) Version at time of writing 1.2.0 Similar / Alternative apps Alternative apps include Live Tracker (and there are a number of 'one hit' tracking apps on the Market), however for continuous location sharing, I have found Glympse to definitely be the best! Also check out the 'Latitude' feature of Google Maps! Suggested improvements for the next version It would be nice to be able to enable 'cell tower only' tracking rather than always using GPS, primarily to save battery and for when tower positioning is accurate enough. Have your say Fan of Glympse? Found something better? Just wanna share your experiences? Post below! :)
Guest subvertbeats Posted August 6, 2010 Report Posted August 6, 2010 Could be a neat thing to have in the app drawer for situations like breaking down and being able to send your exact location....nice
Guest toxic-hero Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 i prefer an application called Map it! which very simple and is doing it's job great.
Guest Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 Thanks for sharing, Paul. Been using Glympse for a week now and love it. Dropped Latitude as my standard tracker software. Also my friends are totally satisfied using it, works well with their WinMo and iPhones.
