Newbie question - Samsung Galaxy S locked

Good evening,

Sorry for the question, that might have been answered before but I didn't find that anwer, but I need to know if I can root and install any new ROM altough the Samsung S is locked to TMN (Portuguese network). I already asked for the unblock code, at The ADVERTISING SPAM Team, but they're taking longer than expected due to some Samsung servers down.
