Guest popetodd Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 (edited) You are whinging about something that is still in development. If they release it missing multi touch and we can verify that (as opposed to reading a review about an alpha version sent out for a press release on the internet) then you might have something to get upset about. It is my understanding the multi touch is a feature of 2.1 as is (someone correct me if I am wrong), it would be beyond strange if Dell purposely disabled the API to keep other apps from using it. EDIT - Yup, multi touch is an API specification: http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-2...tml#api-changes (see MotionEvent) Unless Dell disables this then other applications that support multi touch will also be able to use this API to provide their own support for this feature (that's how these things work). The only group to actually get this to play with is: http://mobile.engadget.com/2010/08/05/dell...lusive-preview/ The ONLY place they whine about multi touch is the keyboard lacking it, a pretty worthless complaint honestly. Then they give Dell kudos for getting multi touch to work with Google Maps, also not too on top of it given that it is Google that did that and it was going to work anyway as long as the API hadn't been disabled. It appears that the original reviewer never said ANYTHING about multi touch being disabled and the muppet who incorrectly paraphrased him over at Android Central doesn't really know much about these things at all and has created much ado about nothing. You've really got to wonder how some of these tech reviewers get or even keep their jobs given their near complete lack of understanding (read: appalling ignorance) when it comes to the tech they make or break. In short, this Engadget reviewer is a total muppet who should be put out to pasture. ill wait and see but if does not have multi-ouch for games a least then will be selling my streak for a galaxy s . even still its still a joke that's it only 2.1 not 2.2 when all the other company's hare having no problem getting 2.2 out
Guest popetodd Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 (edited) Sounds like you just want to get mad at something regardless. If your game doesn't work with multi touch after the upgrade then your game doesn't work with multi touch, that is what the API is all about. The API is there, if the app is written to use it it will. Changing devices won't change that unless the app was written SPECIFICALLY for 2.2, in which case you should have gone there to start with if it's your deal breaker. If you want to go with another device don't use this poorly written misinformation article as an excuse. (pssst, I'm handing you a way out while saving face, you should take it :) ) Edited August 7, 2010 by popetodd

(pssst, I'm handing you a way out while saving face, you should take it :) ) there work on my old htc desire i sold last month its not much to ask when you buy a £469 pound that's suppose to be top of the range to be up to date why was it released in the first place with 1.6 they had plenty of time to update the rom 2.1 .
Guest popetodd Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 (edited) If it's not multi touch then it's gonna be 1.6 eh? :D Like I said, you are just looking for something to complain about at this point. You bought it knowing what was running on it, so that one doesn't fly any more than the outrage over an article that was easily debunked. If you don't like it you should sell it and buy something you do like. Pretty simple that. Just posting slams of the device because you need something to mad about today does nothing to contribute to the site or the understanding of this device and it's OS for the rest of us that are interested in pursuing it and puts off other people from considering it based on repeated rumour, misinformation and otherwise incorrect assessments of what this device is and isn't. So much for your face saving exit. :) Edited August 7, 2010 by popetodd
Guest gingernator Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 Hmmm, I wonder why those games worked on your 2.1 Desire and not on your 1.6 Streak? (The clue is in the question) 2.1 has multitouch throughout the rom and 1.6 does not. That article was highlighting the fact that the keyboard didn't utilise multitouch, not the rom.

Atleast I'm assuming this is the case, If not then do educate me :)! -Sean

Even then it might not work for us with the low RAM. You Streak users have hope yet.

If you aren't understanding what I wrote about API's please ask so I can explain instead of continuing to be upset and posting your displeasure about a problem that doesn't exist.
Guest popetodd Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 (edited) Pulse has 2.1 but no multi-touch, we need the kernel source (which we may never get) to try and get support for it. Even then it might not work for us with the low RAM. You Streak users have hope yet. We've already got multi touch in the browser so the device handles it and the update appears to have Google Map multi touch zoom capability so it's a very good bet (hell, near certainty at this point) that all this fuss about it not having the multi touch API available in the 2.1 update is just a load of bunk caused by a misreading of the original article and some uncritical repeating of that bad info with some indignant outrage for added effect. :) Edited August 7, 2010 by popetodd
Guest fards Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 (edited) the original article clearly states that there is no multi touch in the keyboard. that's all, pretty much like every other keyboard except the droidx . it even states that maps does multi touch.... no where in the original piece does it say they left out multi touch across the board.. ** and to be Frank, wtf do we need multi touch keyboards for on a pda, I can't ever recall having thought , "damn I wish I wad able to press this key at the same time as that one as it will make so much difference to my input speeds!" I suggest reading lessons, they will make your life much much happier..... ** I did read one supposedly serious site yesterday where they claimed there was no multi touch in the 1.6 r om.. that was as I was zooming in using two fingers to read it....... some people write crap without actually ever using the devices they are writing about... Guest chopper70 Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 OMG where do these people come from, under a rock ?
Guest popetodd Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 (edited) OMG where do these people come from, under a rock ? Nah, it's just the end users. Sometimes they hear about the dev sites and get enthusiastic about participating. It's all good, they just need to shut up and listen sometimes instead of repeating themselves when they've been shown to be wrong about something. It was what drove me to 3rd level Unix support, I couldn't take the end users.:) Edited August 7, 2010 by popetodd
Guest chopper70 Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 Yeah I thought that joining this type of forum was about learning to do cool stuff with the expensive devices that we throw too much money at ; -)
Guest gingernator Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 Just to nip this silly thread in the bud, here's a pic uploaded in a previous thread. End!
