Hi,

I need some help. I have this nexus one that is stuck on the boot up screen with and X and a lock. Is there anyway to fix this. I don't have much experience with android. I'm coming from an Apple 3gs. So any help would be appreciated.

There's a few things I need you to do:

1. Did you try to boot into recovery mode? Pull the battery out, put it back in, and hold the volume down button while powering on the phone with the power button.

2. If that didn't work, pull battery and boot into fastboot mode by holding the trackball down and pressing the power button.

3. Have you flashed anything to he phone yet? If yes, what update zip did you flash?

It could just be a bad flash, nothing too serious. Try booting to recovery (see a couple posts up) and use adb to flash whatever you want over there. I can't seem to find the all-inclusive guide that walks you through it, but this might help you out a bit:

Depending on what state you're in, you could try superboot as well:

Yep. If you can get to the recovery menu all you need to do is install a rom from the SD card. Just don't interrupt the process just in case. Any rom will do. I'd suggest cyanogenmod or leofroyo. Just be smart and do your research. Welcome to the community, I think you'll like it here :)

That mostly happened to me when I had a bad sd card partition that isnt compatible with the rom I was installing.
