Guest shran Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 hi folks, i'm looking for some help with this, hoping someone can get me out of this hole i've ended up in ? I'm living in ireland so returning to tmo isn't an option as i bought my pulse on ebay and they don't have ANY stores in n/ireland i've been using my pulse for months, its been working great and i've been able to use all the different roms that are here i took the hung. update and have flashed since then with no problems after my last rom update (it was a fibblesan one but i don't think thats important) my pulse has refused to start when i power it on (as i think that battery is dead) one of two things happen: 1-the tmob logo come up and after a min or so reboots again and i can;t get it off this scrren to recovery mode or into amon ra 2-the buttons on the bottom flash until the tmob logo come on and then it behaves as per the line above i've tried to power with and without the battery via USB and mains power, but nothing i can do seems to get me started. i tried Fastboot Mode, Recovery Mode & Software Update startups with no sucess i've trawled through the forums but can't seem to find anything about getting going again up to know i've never had any problems with the device i've tried starting with and without both sim and mem cards, i've also changed my mem card to a completely different one but to no avail i do have afew nandroid backups from previous updates if that can help if it can't be repaired i'll donate it to anyone who needs parts as apart from this it works great can anyone help me ? thanks shran, dublin
Guest Speckles Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 If you can see the T-Mobile logo, then your phone is not bricked and is recoverable. Have you tried putting the official 2.1 update in the 'dload' folder on your sd card and booting into update mode? Press and hold End Call (Red) and Volume Up whilst pressing the Power button.
Guest shran Posted August 16, 2010 Report Posted August 16, 2010 hello all again, i'm getting a bit further now i can flash with orig updates using the key combination to read the file son my flash card but it still won;t boot when i try to gert into recovery mode to install amon ra or clock works though i get the following message on the blue screen: usb fastboot v0.5 machine id: 1007000 v0 build date: jun 30 2010, 23:25:17 MSM Id: 16 MSM Version: 2.0 Modem build id: 76xxc-6383-SDCBALYM Serial Number: UNKNOWN ptn 0 name='boot' start=304 len=20 ptn 1 name='system' start=324 len=800 ptn 2 name='userdata' start=1124 len=722 ptn 3 name='cache' start=1846 len160 ptn 4 name='recovery' start=2006 len=38 ptn 5 name=misc' start=2044 len=4 i can't get either of the two programs to install past this message and none of the orig images i've downlaoded will boot is my pulse dead ? thanks for any assistance with this
Guest whackster Posted August 16, 2010 Report Posted August 16, 2010 Make sure you have the correct drivers installed, while in fastboot, and usb connected go to device manager and check if there are some drivers missing. I'm guessing that you are on a windows machine, still I think it should be the same on linux too.

I stand to be corrected as I'm fairly new to this myself. When you are on the blue screen with the above message. [1]Plug in USB. [2]Run "install-recovery-windows.bat" in "1.5.2-pulse-amonrarecovery folder on your PC (You won't see anything on Pulse screen but a black terminal window should quickly flash up on your PC. This will have installed the recovery drivers on your Pulse.) [3]Unplug USB and remove and re-insert battery [4]Reboot into AmonRA (red/menu/power keys) [5]Wipe Data. Clear Dalvik cache [6]Enable USB Toggle [7]Copy "dload" folder to SD Card (after deleting old "dload" folder). Toggle USB off. [8]Battery out and back in [9]Vol up/red/power key to unpack/install rom I'm no expert but this is what I did when my phone was hanging at the same stage as yours. Instead of stage 7,8 and 9, you could try doing "Nand Recovery" instead at that point. Edited August 16, 2010 by johninho

I'm guessing that you are on a windows machine, still I think it should be the same on linux too. (Off topic-ish) Linux is fine for me (10.04 LTS), fastboot and adb worked without messing around (used the versions from the Superboot .zip) Either way, this sounds quite like what happened to me, it would hang on the T-Mobile screen when I tried to boot into recovery mode, when I didn't try to boot into recovery, the phone would boot (with no touchscreen) so I had no SD mount (to try another 2.1 update). Fastboot would flash the images, but wouldn't boot them. My problem is different from yours, but did you have any problems before this? Like no touchscreen, no 3G, no SD card, no NAND (couldn't install apps)? Maybe this is like a kinda combo - if one part fails, the phone goes on strike?
Guest shran Posted August 16, 2010 Report Posted August 16, 2010 danwilson, johninho, whackster, thanks for the quick replies i am using a windows pc to install the amon ra. i've used th epc before with no problems possible the newer android update has affected the recovery process as i'm fairly sure that when i used recovery mode before it didn't get the extra text as per my previous post that appears after serial number usb fastboot v0.5 machine id: 1007000 v0 build date: jun 30 2010, 23:25:17 MSM Id: 16 MSM Version: 2.0 Modem build id: 76xxc-6383-SDCBALYM Serial Number: UNKNOWN ptn 0 name='boot' start=304 len=20 ptn 1 name='system' start=324 len=800 ptn 2 name='userdata' start=1124 len=722 ptn 3 name='cache' start=1846 len160 ptn 4 name='recovery' start=2006 len=38 ptn 5 name=misc' start=2044 len=4 when the phone sits in the blue screen recovery mode and i connect it to usb, i run the install bat file for either amon ra or clockworks but it doesn;t install also, from the text in recovery mode my serial number is unknown i never noticed if this happened before as i never had a problem with it can someone please boot their pulse into recovery mode (red & vol down + power) and let me know what text they get ? its really frustrating as i can get so far but no further!

You get no text in recovery mode... The last thing that I can suggest (I'm no pro) is this. Open up a Command Prompt. (Start, Run "cmd") Go to the folder with the recovery image in it.*drag the fastboot-windows file into the command prompt, and type (dont press enter yet)* boot *hit space and drag the AMON-RA .img here now. Hit enter* If you have the AMON-RA folder in C:\ (and have the recovery image named RECOVERY.img) cd C:\AMON-RA fastboot-windows boot RECOVERY.img[/codebox] If it says "BOOTING" and never changes, I can't help you anymore... :D

Sorry Shran, my Pulse is in for Repair. Same problem as you when I was trying to flash UK 2.1. Did manage to get Dec update back on it (using method as per earlier post) but consensus of opinion is it was a hardware fault. I'm sure I had same display. Remember the ptn 4, ptn 5 etc bit. When I ran the Install bat, nothing showed on Pulse screen, i.e. it appeared to not have done anything, however on booting with Red/Menu/Power (after install bat process) Amonra started. This then allowed me to wipe and put Dec update Dload folder back on

The drivers you have are for Android 1.5, but you'd have to install the drivers for Android 2.1. One thing to say, uninstalling the old drivers is really a mess! To make things easier, download a Ubuntu LiveCD and boot it, and install the recovery image through Linux. On a sidenote, what you mean with 'recovery mode' is actually the 'fastboot mode'. That's why it says 'fastboot' and not 'recovery' :D You're trying to install the recovery image through fastboot. Another note: you won't see anything on your phone's display even if the recovery image is successfully installed; that's normal with Android 2.1. Best regards, BB

Pwr + red key + vol up flashes a dload update that is stored on your SD card. Lets say this is equal to a factory reset (it isn't, but it makes ir easier to explain :D ). To boot into the recovery mode you have to press pwr + menu + red key. It will work then and you'll be able to install any custom ROM you want :D Best regards, BB

Guest shran Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 hello all, this is my last hope does anyone know of ANY way to flash my pulse with HUAWEI tools to the orig shipping rom (1.5/1.6) ? i can't get it to start up in any way so i can use standard recovery tools any attempt to install amon ra or clockworks appears to work but it will not allow me to boot into either of these apps it must have corrupted while i was installing one of the 3rd party roms and i can't get it going i'm living in dublin so i can;t get it to a T-M store, its also out of warr so i'm goosed i'l love to get it working again otherwise i'm done with the pulse for good :-( can someone adivsie or point me in the direction of a HUAWEI master tool ? thanks for everything folks shran
