Guest johninho Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 (edited) Hi all, Forgive me if this should have been raised in an existing thread but as my problem covers more than one Rom I thought I'd put the question here. Although I haven't posted much, I have had my Pulse since Dec 25th 2009 and have followed this forum almost daily. (it's a 8220 T-Mobile UK Pulse) I originally installed the Hungarian 2.1 and the custom dload that was posted with it. I decided to try out Fibblesan's FLB Rom so used the 1.5 downgrade Rom, reinstalled December update then loaded the Hungarian Rom again before installing FLB 1.1. All worked fine. Since then, I am unable to install either the official UK 2.1 Rom or FLB 1.2 or FLB 1.3. I have used AmonRa 1.5.2. to recover phone after flashing Rom fails. I can wipe, and install either the December update or the official Hungarian 2.1 which gets phone up and running but any other upgrades (UK official or FLB) fail. Am I doing something very basic wrong? p.s. I have never used A2SD Edited August 8, 2010 by johninho
Guest johninho Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 Did you wipe before flashing? Yes, wipe and clear davlik cache. Since I posted the above, I've made a Clockwork Recovery so at least I can try to flash non official rom's from inside Android and can restore.

I don't know about FLB but for the stock 2.1 UK I found sometimes (maybe everytime, I've flashed so many times now I've forgotten) it wouldn't flash like the other ones do but doing it the official way worked. Download the update file Unzip the file Pulse Android21.zip to a location of your choice on your computer Copy the files you just unzipped (the “dload” folder and all its contents) to the root directory of your MICRO SD card Insert your MICRO SD card into the handset On your Pulse, go to the Main menu, then select Settings Within Settings select SD card & phone storage Scroll down, under the Internal phone storage section select Upgrade The upgrade process will give you several warnings which you need to confirm to continue Then press the Upgrade option to begin the update As the update progresses you will see several screens along with a progress bar Once complete you will see a confirmation screen, and your Pulse will automatically restart Once restarted your Pulse will be up to date with the latest software

Yes. Official 2.1 ROMs, even though they are ZIP files, cannot be flashed through recovery. You need to unzip and copy the dload folder to the root of the SD card.
Guest johninho Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the reply guys. The official ROM's I have tried to install 2 different ways. 1) by using the menu in phone "Settings/SD & Phone Card Storage/Software Upgrade. 2) Power down. Up Volume/Red Key/Power Key. (after copying dload folder to SD card) Both ways fail :) Screen shows as unpacking, then installing but about 50% through a message displays "update failed". Red and Green keys flash and phone is bricked. Have to then run AmonRa, wipe, and toggle usb so I can put Dec update or Hungarian official 2.1 on. Then can install FLB 1.1, which allows me to use Clockwork to fully recover. Although I created a Nandroid backup, this also fails until I have successfully put Dec/Hungarian on. Nandroid backup then works. I'm totally stumped. I've tried following the pinned guide for returning to Dec update but it doesn't make any difference. I've tried the following out (to no avail) Dec update/Offical UK 2.1 Dec update/Hungarian/UK 2.1 Dec update/Hungarian/FLB 1.1/UK2.1 UK 2.1 Hungarian/UK 2.1 No matter what I try, I can't get further than Hungarian 2.1 and/or FLB 1.1 Edited August 9, 2010 by johninho

Try downloading it again (maybe even a different version - non-rooted/rooted) and flash again?

I did wonder if the zip hadn't extracted properly and unzipped again but that didn't solve problem.
Guest johninho Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 Any luck yet? Sorry for not replying. I tried re-downloading but still no luck. I don't know if you've followed the thread on "UK T-Mobile 2.1" but it looks as if me and a couple of others (oporto and krfan) have a hardware fault with phone. Something to do with a faulty memory sector. I'm going to reflash Time Machine and Dec update, put on UK 2.1 and allow it to fail, then take back to T-Mobile shop on Friday and see if I can get a warranty repair/replacement. Thanks anyway.
