Is anyone actually working on an unlocking solution?

I see a lot of people working on a lot of other things, but is anyone actually actively working on a solution to unlock the Streak?

How did people get their Nexus Ones/Desires unlocked without going to their Telco?

How do these websites get unlock codes for phones? Have they hacked the phones and come up with some kind of keygen?

Or does every unlock code, whether its from a Telco or an independant websirte, ultimately come from the Telco/Hardware manafacturer?

I believe that it is something to do with the IMEI in the device so it is specific to each handset. There are a lot of websites out there to do this sort of thing, but none yet for the Streak I believe – I would post links but have been accused of spamming in the past for this ort of thing so PM me if you want further info. The site I would use have offered to try unlock ‘give it a go’ you could say and if it doesn’t work give you a full refund.

Wonder if I should cancel my order. Not one person at Dell knows if the phone will work with anything other than AT&T ... The beta worked with T-Mobile. The specs look the same .. Anyone here know ?? I am sure that the people here are smarter than the tech in Dell-India !!

Ive just spent a couple of days in Dublin, and managed to use an O2 IRL sim card in the streak, and use the streak for web browsing, going to do some more testing when i finally get home.. but if it is sim locked then shorly it wouldnt work with anything but o2-UK and there MVNO's..

My streak isnt rooted or anything, and was one of the first streaks from O2-UK...

4 days of talking to Dell employees could drive a person mad. I finally found someone to give me an RMA. One person tried to talk me into using AT&T rather than send back my unit .. I told them when I switch to AT&T I'll buy an iPad ..

I used an add from the bottom of one of the pages here for unlocking .. The website said "Enter your IMEI and we will let you know if we can provide an unlock code." I figured I will give it a shot for $1.99 .. I entered the phone brand, IMEI and the carrier I want to unlock .. it said "Yes .. we can unlock your phone .. " So I followed the link to Paypal and paid them .. Got a note back saying they would send the code within 12 hours .. Didn't notice right away but later realized that they charged me $8.99 .. NOT $1.99 ... I don't expect to get an unlock either.

That was www.unlock-freedom.com They also go by the name www.remoteunlocks.com

Desperate times call for desperate measures but now I am being stupid .. I gotta just use my RMA and get rid of the beast...

I am 99.9999% sure I found the person in the right department who will unlock our phones. She took all my info said she mails it to someone who will mail her back the unlock code.

Sound right doesn't it ???? It's been 30 minutes and she said could be an hour or so but she sounds like she knows what she is talking about .. I will come back here about 6pm eastern time, I have an hour commute home, and if she could do what she says she can do I will give you her name and phone number .. SERIOUSLY .. this is the first hope I have had - I just said, before I return my Streak and buy an unlocked one on eBay, can you help ?? She just jumped right in and said, "don't send it back .. I can get you the unlock code." I asked if I could share her with the rest of the disappointed buyers and she said YES ..

I hear over at XDA that there are a few beta testers on the 2.1 ROM with the NEW rebel simcard.

It apparently is working with data also!

I'd hang just that little while longer guys, looks like an unlock option is around the corner.

Mine is on Optus 3G / H - keeps connectivity - no problem - but I have to switch to GSM only to let calls come thru.

If noone else reports it its probably something I am doing wrong. Is there any way to check which firmware is on my phone ? The flash procedure worked fine using the SIM programmer - but I didn't go so far as to check the version that the SIM thinks is on it.

Also, my SIM is a bit worn from swapping it back and forth - so that could also be it.

Agree, that its a good, unique product - just not confident to rely on it for my primary cell phone just yet.
