Guest xarxiusxiii Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 Hello everyone, I have a few questions about the Liquid, as I MIGHT be getting one soon (it's between this or the Motorola Milestone, so the answers to these questions may sway me in favour of the Liquid). I'm coming from a T-Mobile Pulse (I'm fed up with it now), so I'm no newbie to Android. These questions are aimed towards people with a 2.1 / 2.2 custom ROM on their phone, I have no intention of keeping 1.6. I've read quite a few reviews, but I want to know people's personal experiences (and if anyone has used this and a Milestone / Droid, which one do you prefer?) 1) What's gaming performance like? Specifically, I would like to know how psx4droid, N.O.V.A. and Raging Thunder 2 perform on this device. That's one department which my Pulse is terrible in, and I'd like to be able to play these games :D 2) What's the screen like? Is it 16M colours or 256K? (Not sure if many people would know that :)) The screen is a HUGE deciding factor for me, I'm fine with the 3.5" screen size, and the 54 extra pixels on the Milestone make no difference to me, but the colour representation, visibility in sunlight and responsiveness of the screen matter. 3) Although I'm not too fussed, what is the camera like? Either of the phones would be an upgrade from my Pulse, and the lack of a flash on the Liquid doesn't matter too much, I hardly ever take photos in the dark :D 4) Overall, do you like the phone, and would you recommend it? Thanks for taking the time to read this and (possibly) answer any questions. Price doesn't matter as I am getting the phone on contract and I have found both at the same price. I've had a chance to have a quick play with a Milestone in a shop near me, and I quite liked it, but nowhere seemed to have the Acer Liquid... I know both these phones would be better than my Pulse though.
Guest chingy1788 Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 It would be a good upgrade form the pulse but... I wouldn't recommend it, perhaps I would recommend it to those who just want a cheap phone. The touch screen isnt teribly great, multi touch only works well for pinch zooming, not so much for games The screen is unlikely to be 16M colours, most likely 256k or lower as I do see banding in gradients. The screen does have the highest pixel density of any Android phone I know of (Moto Droid/Milestone is about 2-3 dpi less. The camera, no flash, almost useless in low light (even for a camera without flash) Currently the Acer goes for $430 AUD on ebay and the Moto Milestone for $450 AUD, I'd take the Milestone. and I probably should have when I was thinking about buying the Acer. but the Milestone was $150 more than the Acer back then (December 2009)

I have used both and the milestone is a way better phone than the Liquid. But motorola's phone has a huge problem => locked bootloader, and for me it was the point that made me choose the Liquid. Acer's phone is made of cheap plastic, and has a so-so multitouch screen compared to the milestone, but it runs very well Android 2.1 and 2.2, and custom roms are getting numerous !
Guest boostnek9 Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 I find it unfortunate that everyone bashes this Acer phone! I have it and I find it great! and why say that its made of cheap plastic? do you plan on using your phone as a football? if not then I dont see the relevance in functionality... I have no issues with the touchscreen and besides you can always change the sensitivity to your liking with a script... all the buttons work perfectly, the performance is really good in my opinion 512MB ram,778Mhz processor and its overclockable.. that puts it in front of a lot of devices IMO....and the unlocked bootloader makes it a great play around device but I said it before and I'll say it once more.. it's not a computer its a phone.. but yes I do recommend it! :)
Guest Elisha82 Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 What so cheap about it? I see no gaps and it does no creak at all.

I know both these phones would be better than my Pulse though. 1) Not a gamer but on Nenamark1 at 998MHz, I get 16.7 fps with sound (that is better than pretty much all other 1GHz Snapdragon phones). It is no Galaxy S but still pretty good. 2) It is 256k colors according to every spec sheet I have ever read but the Android 2.1/2.2 only support 65k colors. 3) Not knowledgeable about this. My outdoors pics look good but indoor pics look like crap. 4) Yes. You can't get better at the price (off contract price of course).
Guest djinferno806 Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 I think its a fantastic phone, seeing as how here in Canada, Rogers Wireless doesn't have much choice with android phones. Im totally happy with the phone.
Guest xarxiusxiii Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 Thanks for all the replies, they're appreciated. However, I've found the Galaxy S for £20 a month, so I've gone with that option (it's what I would have paid for the Liquid / Milestone). For what it's worth though, I probably would have chosen the Liquid, due to the support for custom ROMs, and the great community support here. The Milestone did look nice, but due to it's locked nature, I would have felt closed in (the feeling I get when even looking at any Apple product :D) Thanks for the help though :D
