Help my Streak is FUBAR'D

Hi all,

Any help or suggestions welcomed at this point.

Yesterday my Streak started to Flash the 3 lights on the right and constantly reboot so i took out the battery and left it for 20 minutes on putting the battery in and starting it it now only boots to the Dell screen and no further. After many tries i can occasionally get into the recovery or Fastboot mode. I have tried every combination mentioned in all the threads and have had limited success in getting recovery done and uploading an update.zip but they all result in the same only booting to the Dell Logo.

What's worse is i bought mine form CPW who advised me to take it into a store where i was told to speak to Dell who advised me to go back to CPW who say they can't repair it as don't have permission from Dell yet or any parts/software and to go back to Dell. I have now escalated this through CPW as want and expect something done and sooner rather then later.

So does anyone here have any other ideas at all? also how can i erase any trace of it previously being rooted? and not running a Stock Rom or do i now have an expensive brick? Should i delete all data and choose the factory reset option?

I had problems getting a repair at CPW, they seem to have a problem booking it into their repair system (they say they do not support the dell streak, even though they sell it?).

They can however send it to dell for you, I was told it may be quicker to do it myself, I said I still wanted them to do it because it's their responsibility to send it off and ulitmately it will be CPW who has to replace it if it can't be repaired.

I hate confrontation but luckily consumer direct is quite clear - any fault within 6 months you take it back to the shop, if they cannot prove its your fault its broken, they have to repair/replace/refund it (in that order). They cannot send you off to the manufacturer to claim under waranty. Print off the following link and you shouldn't have to do much arguing...

http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/after_you...rights/mobiles/

one warning though - it isn't going to be quick getting a replacement - they estimated 28 days :S

Hi all

Many thanks for the suggestions so far but i have already tried the suggestion in post 21 of that thread and although it said Recovery Done and then flashed and said it had installed it still wouldn't boot past the Dell logo.

Some one here has made a fix for me that i am going to try later when he sends me the files but in the meantime Car Phone Warehouse are on it and even they are having trouble speaking to Dell to get answers but thanks for your help and suggestions so far and i will keep the Forum updated with what happens. Have to say I'm going from being a happy Streak user to an unhappy one quite quickly wasn't happy about no 2.2 in September and now this is trying my patience. Many thanks d1kk1e that info may come in handy and i am not going to accept up to 28 days as being reasonable either as it isn't IMO CPW will need to replace mine and sort it out with Dell themselves in that case it shouldn't and won't be my problem.

ive just had a stuck on dell logo issue.

it wasn't playing very well, would go into fastboot though. it sounds to me like the sensors on the back cover aren't working very well with yours as I had mine drop out of recovery mode when the cover wasn't perfectly tight a couple of times.

in the end I went back to stock recovery, copied the 4399 pkg to the sdcard (via card reader) renamed it to update.pkg booted into recovery so that it would find the update.pkg and everything worked from there..

Hi Fards

Thanks for that suggestion but already tried that the problem i have there is that my memory card isn't E but is D so it doesn't see or find the update.pkg. slowly losing the will to live over this and to put it simply if i don't get it repaired or replaced by 02, CPW or Dell in a timely manner i will just cancel the airtime contract and wish 02 good luck in sueing me as far as i am concerned the device forms part of my contract no working devcie no contract.

Hi all,

Latest update thanks to rza.android i have been able to restore my Streak to the official Dell 4339 build so at least i can send it back safe in the knowledge that it won't show it was rooted or running a custom Rom now the bad news is although it is now back to being stock i still have the three lights on the right flashing and the constant rebooting so it has to go back and this is with no additional apps installed on the Streak at all so IMO it is looking like it's a hardware failure as opposed to anything to do with the software. I will keep all posted on what happens re getting it fixed or replaced.

Hi all,

Well i just received an E-Mail from Dell with a number to call for technical support and eventually got transfered to a really nice lady who listened to what was wrong and has arranged for a new unit to be sent to me and for me to return my current unit this is the sort of service i expected and am happy with. UPS will collect my currrent device within the next 48hrs and i should then recieve my new device within 10 days not as fast as i would like but better then nothing.

U R Bad guy, :D

Really?

Think - what would you do?

Would you contact Dell tell them you have possibly broken your device or it could be a hardware failure.

Or would you try and get it back to stock and hopefully play the game to get it repaired for free?

If it's the first then you're one of a rarity.

To be honest I would have done what this guy did, I'm not saying it's right or moral but at least I'm honest with myself.

EVERYONE and I mean everyone has done something 'not quite above board' in their lives (unless you're jesus)

That's the trouble with all these forums everyone is very quick to judge thinking they're whiter than white.

Anyway, rant over and let us know how it goes :)

Hi all,

To be honest if it was the software that had caused a problem it would of been solved once it was re flashed back to stock standard software and there wouldn't be a problem any longer but it is definitely a hardware issue as even if i leave it off for a while it will work again for a very short time it doesn't take more than about 5 Min's of use before the flashing lights and rebooting loop returns. Now if i had damaged the Streak by dropping it or trying to modify or change the hardware that would of been my fault and i would of accepted responsibility for it. Sorry but i really don't feel that I'm cheating Dell into giving me a new device as it has obviously developed a hardware fault IMO as even though mine is 2 months old now it is still mint with not a mark on it anywhere.

When I phoned Dell about my screen at first they had no idea what the Streak/Mini5 was; she had to go find her manager to talk to him about it. When finally she came back she said they have absolutely no repair solutions, no spare parts, no repair shops, nothing. It is absolutely ridiculous.

Hi all,

Just a small update for anyone that may of bought their Streak from CPW they still haven't got back to me so not impressed with them at all and dealing with Dell has turned into a nightmare as every time i speak to someone i get a different answer or response i thought on Tuesday it was all sorted and that UPS where coming to collect mine and then Dell would send me a new one. Well after 48hrs had past and no UPS collection i contacted Dell again to be told to wait another 24 hrs still no UPS so phoned Dell again this time i was told what i had previously been told was wrong and that Dell don't need to collect mine before sending me a new one but she couldn't see anything that said i was due to receive or return a new unit she did how ever put me on hold for quite a while whilst speaking to a manager but at least when she came back she said i will receive a new Streak within 2 business days so that should be Tuesday and i will have instructions in that package about how to return the other one. The most encouraging thing about dealing with this lady on Friday was that about 15 minutes after my call with her she phoned me back to check my postal address which makes me feel slightly hopeful things may go right this time. There is a UK number to phone to speak to Streak support that then transfers you to the US and Dell in Texas in case anyone wants or needs it it is 0844 444 4712 although a word of warning the carrier Dell are using for this routing is rubbish call quality is really bad.

Hi all,

OK further update guess what no new Streak arrived on Tuesday but a UPS driver did to collect my current Streak with nothing more than a label!!! have spoken to Managers twice now since then at Dell neither of which have had the decency to call me back with an update as they said they would and for me that's it I've had enough this customer service or rather non service is the worst i have ever experienced since mobile phones where first launched.

It has taken 9 days just to collect my Streak and will take up to another 10 days for it to go to Hungary(Dells Service Centre) and come back if this is what happens if their device suffers a hardware failure after your initial 28 days i think it sucks and good luck to Dell when they start selling their other smart phones later in the year because users will quite rightly give them hell if this their idea of good customer service. Not of course forgetting the fact that Froyo now isn't coming in September as they first said was it means i have zero faith in Dell and their operations .

So I have bought a Galaxy S today direct from VodaFone which will be with me tomorrow and I won't be touching CPW, Dell or 02 with a barge pole ever again i intend selling my Streak on it's return and using my 3GB data from 02 via tethering.

It's a shame as i really did like my Streak and still think it's a great device but just can't handle the service issues and am not prepared to have to got through anything like this gain if it has another problem.
