Guest stefor Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 Hi All Only just found the forum and glad I did. There's some really good posts but I need answers to a couple of questions. I've just got an LG GT540 from Carphone Warehouse, and as usual it's unbranded. I here a lot of people on here talking about upgrading the firmware from the V10a, which is in my phone, to other versions. With this being unbranded, can I use any? Is there specific ones for unbranded phones? And finally, when Android 2.1 is released for this phone how will I get it and from where? I know proper noob questions. I wouldn't like to brick the phone, but wouldn't like to stick the wrong firmware in it, or stick a rom in it from another carrier, like o2.
Guest aaa801 Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 When 2.1 is released itl use the lg updater to flash it to the phone

Guest kevcampbell Posted August 21, 2010 Report Posted August 21, 2010 hi all im new here and new to android phones, the last phone i had was a sony k800i i think, so have never had this type of phone before but i recently also purchased one from carphone warehouse on a vodafone contract, so is the new android not out yet? how comes 2.1 is not yet out but they are talking about 2.2 for other phones? may sound like a question anyone can answer on here, but as i say i am new to these types of phones and the software too, any help would be great and as for a new android os, i just wait do i? how will i know when it is released? thank you
Guest jporch316 Posted August 21, 2010 Report Posted August 21, 2010 some manufacturers place their own UI/software over the android system meaning that they have to spend time to test their software on the newer android build. HTC, SE, Samsung etc all take some time doing this - the HTC hero shipped with android 1.5 last summer and didint get an update to 2.1 until July this year. Some handsets wont be able to take 2.2 - but 2.1 is almost identical. Keep your eyes on the forums and you ll know when 2.1 is available for optimus. The build on this phone is pretty good for 1.6 - I had a htc tattoo with 1.6 and bluetooth transfer was not available. You also get the option with this phone to use the vanilla android experience. Features in 2.1 include - live wallpapers - 5 homescreens among others 2.2 brings -apps on sd - wifi tethering
