Will the Streak be as fast as the Desire?

The HTC Desire's UI on both 2.1 and 2.2 is waaay faster and smoother than the Streak on 1.6. Seeing that they both have similar hardware specs, is it safe to assume the Streak will be just as fast and responsive on 2.1 and 2.2?

Yeah, should perform effectively identically to the N1/Desire.

why do you say the streak its slower on1.6?

according to quadrant and linpack I get higher scores than the desire running 2.1

Because it is slower. The Desire gets about 7 on linpack, the Streak about 4. Its already been reported that the 2.1 version of the streak shown on Engadget gets nearer 7. Similar performance deltas are reported in Quadrant as well, although Quadrant has been updated and it skews results compared to the desires reported average.

Ok ive installed quadrant advanced, which gives a breakdown of the individual parts. Its recently been updated and has changed the weighting for each test, making the results incompatible with older runs.

The streak is faster than a 2.1 Desire overall, but there are key differences in some areas.

The Desire CPU wins, no doubt due to 2.1. The Desire also wins 3D and memory. However the Streaks kills it in I/O and 2D.

Id say if 2.1 gives the streak a boost then it should easily outpace the Desire, and with 2.2 it should be one of the fastest snapdragon devices.

Yeah, I believe it has one of the "newer" snapdragon chips so it should be up there. But the samsung phones will destroy it.

The Streak has faster I/O though. The Samsung is pretty laggy without the I/O hack thats going around, so the better processor seems wasted. Lots of people are losing patience with the galaxy S. Its just really badly optimised.

I just hope a windows 7 phone will be releasing with a 4.5" screen at least!

Playing with both devices, the Desire is way smoother in terms of ... everything really. Switching home screens, opening the app drawer, loading programs, switching programs, scrolling lists, keyboard response... the general feel of it. On 1.6, I really can't see any aspect of the Streak being faster or even coming close to the Desire, which is why I'm hoping the 2.1/2.2 updates will make them similar. It'd be a dream to use if it was as fast and stable as the Desire.
