Guest anusthegreat Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 Hello there, community. I got a question and this is the only place where I can ask for an answer. Well, I bought an almost new Acer Liquid a few months ago for 420 USD. It's pretty much like a brand new, but missing the garantee. It doesn't matter for me b/c I flashed a custom ROM on the second day of using. The cool story is about my friend crashing the phone from a table two months ago and I got this. It doesn't bother me at all, everything else working perfect; the case is kind of not that stiff if you touch the back side, but it's a great phone on the whole. Well, the question is: I got an option to sell the device for 330 USD now and, of course, I gotta get a new Android device. Also, I have already found some offers. Among them, HTC Desire which might be sold for 490 USD at the moment. It's not used at all and stuff, brand new. So, shall I make the deal: sell my Liquid with a dent on its screen making it took INCOMPLETE and retarded Chinese case, add some money and get a Desire phone EITHER I shall wait for something cool and will not pay 160 bucks for 0.2 inch of the screen difference and RAM. Once again, the Liquid device I own at the moment is perfect in all ways to me except the dent on its screen which doesnt affect anything except aesthetic feelings. Is it worth switching it to Desire or maybe any other Android PDA for 150-200 dollars?
Guest umair9001 Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 It really depends on what you are looking forward in the phone, naturally if you upgrade from liquid, u will want a better performing phone, plus make sure that modders are on to that phone's rom, instead of waiting for it to get rooted.
Guest Delnar_Ersike Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 (edited) It all depends on how much you want to future-proof yourself. You could also sell the Liquid and get a Liquid E instead: they're basically the same phones, except the Liquid E comes with Eclair and has 512 MB RAM instead of 256 MB. Last time I checked, the E was 40-60 USD more expensive than the regular Liquid, so you won't be spending as much as you would on the Desire. On the other hand, the Desire comes with a 1Ghz processor stock (even though some can overclock their Liquids to 1.2Ghz, the problem is only some can do that), LED flash, an optical trackpad, the better display (though 0.2 inches really isn't that big of a difference once you think about it, therefore AMOLED is the only real difference), and, most important IMHO, is an HTC phone, meaning it comes with Sense UI (best stock launcher IMO) and is fully supported by popular ROMs like CyanogenMod. That also means that it'll probably have Android 3.0 Gingerbread running before the Liquid or the Liquid E. Here's a link to a side-by-side comparison of the two spec-wise: http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPho...p;idPhone2=3156 If you really don't care about looks, you should stick with the Liquid for now. Though its price may go down over time, the HTC Desire might be outdated in 3 months, since HTC is always coming out with a new Android handset. If you have enough money, you should take a look at the Samsung Galaxy S or the Acer Stream. PS. 330 USD is pretty good sell price for your Liquid, especially since the official, that is New/Mint, price is between 350 USD and 400 USD. Though if you're a good businessman, you could probably haggle out a bit more for your Liquid, considering the crack is only aesthetic and has no impact on the user experience. :D Edited August 12, 2010 by Delnar_Ersike
Guest anusthegreat Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 Thanks for paying attention to my question. I am not expecting anything else from a phone than I'm getting from my liquid, I love it badly. The only way I got an idea switching it to Desire is the dent on my screen and the plastic Chinese case which doesn't feel so good while attached to the back side, lol. It's not about 0.2 inch or a few more megabytes of Ram; I'm using a custom Xian ROM, too: it supports multitouch and CPU overclocking. I'm not in any rush but I'm afraid I won't be able to sell damaged screen Liquid in like three months for the same amount of money to get a new phone, while I'm pretty sure the Liquid is gonna get boring soon. It's just a matter of time, but now I got an offer to sell it for almost 350 USD while you can barely sell a new device for that money here, in Russia. The other question is wether I have to keep it down untill Stream is available to buy, or go for Desire now. I've never been so confused, lol. On one hand, I wouldn't give that white liquid out for anything, but on the other, the dent on the screen makes me nervous and I feel like if anything happens to it for the second time, it won't get over it.
Guest Delnar_Ersike Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 I've taken a look at the Acer Stream's specs, and I have to say it isn't that much better than an HTC Desire. Here's the rundown: Acer Stream advantages: - Dedicated multimedia keys - Dolby Sound Enhancement - 802.11n Wireless - Better video recording HTC Desire advantages: - Costs less - Has more RAM (It has 576 MB while the Acer Stream has 512 MB) - Has LED flash, and reviews say it generally takes much better pictures. I've taken a look at the synthetic resolution pictures and compared them to the Liquid and Desire: the Desire's is much better than both the Liquid's and the Stream's, and while the Stream's is sharper than the Liquid's, it has more noise and the white balance is a bit off. - According to reviews, has a better looking screen and has better sunlight legibility This doesn't include the fact that we don't know how easy it will be to root and mod the Acer Stream and how easy it'll be to port FroYo to it, while the HTC Desire has long been supported by CyanogenMod and has a much larger userbase.
Guest Rajit Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 ok if u dont look at the dent, I think the phone in the pic is looking super slick!!! what do u all think??
Guest boostnek9 Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 ok if u dont look at the dent, I think the phone in the pic is looking super slick!!! what do u all think?? What's slick about it? I don't understand..it's a Acer liquid lol
Guest PhilNelwyn Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 Because there's no screen protection.
Guest anusthegreat Posted August 13, 2010 Report Posted August 13, 2010 I'm not using any screen protection, that's right. I keep my phone in my bag in the same pocket with keys and cigarettes and stuff and it's not getting any scratches.
Guest HustlinDaily Posted August 13, 2010 Report Posted August 13, 2010 (edited) Be careful. I also put it in my pocket sometimes with keys/cigs/lighter and I have a couple of scratches on my screen (nothing too bad tho). Also, you expect to sell it for $330? Brand new ones are going for $320. Edited August 13, 2010 by HustlinDaily
