Welcome to 'Paul's App of the Day', where I pick one of my favourite apps as featured app of the day! Today's app is...

LauncherPro

What they say

If you can't open it, download "Home Switcher".

- Super-smooth scrolling
- Animated screen previews (like Exposé or HTC Sense)
- Up to 7 home screens
- App drawer (2D and 3D!) with a fly-in effect and smooth scrolling
- Scrollable shortcut dock

What we say

There are a number of alternative launchers out there, but for me, this is the one that wins. Favourite features include the speed and smoothness, uber-3D app drawer and the customisable dock shortcuts with counter markers for mail / messages / phone. Very nice indeed!

Similar / Alternative apps

I had a tough time choosing between this app and ADW.Launcher, which is also excellent. I like the themes support in ADW, but LauncherPro just about wins out for me!

Suggested improvements for the next version

More custom sense-like widgets please! :D

this is by far the best launcher, and the plus version with the widgets is even better.

any chance of getting this as an option to bake in the kitchen?

just so that its the default and only launcher installed on the phone, or is that not possible? and does it not update if its a default launcher?

I'm quite happy with ADW in CM6 although I do switch between that and LP! The one thing I do like on LP is the badges that tell you how many txt's or emails etc you have unread!

Almost a little uncessary with the N1 imo as you can have trackball colours for notifications but still a neat feature! perhaps more useful for those that don't have a visible notification on the phone.

Not a bad launcher. One thing i cannot figure out, and the only reason why i do not use as default is that you cannot change the columns and rows count for the home screen.

If someone knows how to do this, please let me know.

Otherwise as good as ADW imho.

yea i would like to know this too, im using a streak and it looks silly with the icons so spread out. With ADW you can choose how many row/columns you want.

I didn't think I could do without HTC Sense. Then I found this and I'm not sure how I could do without it. It's intuitive, fast and I haven't had any problems at all with it.

And of course it is not available for people with 1.5

in case any newbies come across this thread, i prefer 'go launcher ex' - it's very similar to launcher pro, but more tweakable - free too!
