Guest Paul Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 Welcome to 'Paul's App of the Day', where I pick one of my favourite apps as featured app of the day! Today's app is... Google Sky Map What they sayGoogle Sky Map turns your Android-powered mobile phone into a window on the night sky What we say This app is so cool, and a great demonstration of the positioning and accelerometers in your device. Instructions for use: 1. Wait for dark, clear night. 2. Go outside. 3. Run app and point phone at sky. 4. Spot stars displayed on phone in night sky. This is a great camping game. :D Permissions ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION / HARDWARE_TEST / WAKE_LOCK / WRITE_SETTINGS Download View at AppBrain Direct Market Link (for on device)View on Android Market QRcode To use, install 'Barcode Scanner' from the Android Market. Price FREE Market star rating at time of writing 4.71 (80923 ratings) Version at time of writing 1.5.2 Similar / Alternative apps I don't think there is another Android app that has the same functionality. Suggested improvements for the next version I've often wondered how feasible it would be to show satellites in the app, satellite spotting is another good night time camping activity. :D That would be COOL! Have your say Fan of Google Sky Map? Found something better? Just wanna share your experiences? Post below! ;)
Guest bewA Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 I have this app and its pretty cool :D I was using while looking at the stars on Meteor night last week :D
Guest cypherpunk Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 This is a very cool app. The night-vision mode is pretty neat, hit a button and it changes to a dim red colour so that your night-vision isn't compromised by the bright screen.
Guest Entreated Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 Great app, but getting a clear sky in the UK ha!
Guest bewA Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 umm its not a problem where i live! :D
Guest Tanis64 Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 Take also a look at AcruSky Compact Planetarium if you interrested in that hobby regards Christopher
Guest LoneThread Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 Star Chart by Escapist Games is a thousand times better than this although it costs £1.80.
