I only noticed it after updating from the UK 2.1 to the regular FLB mod.

Then I wiped and installed the Community FLB mod

Then back to official UK 2.1

The market has been giving the same message "Starting download" every time no matter what I try (Clearing data, cache, Wiping, re-flashing, rebooting)

The market still works on my 2 other devices.

But Evil Panda has already reported the exact same issue at the same time as I started experiencing it, so... Can you download anything from the market? :D

I'm getting exactly the same issue, I hadnt particularly done anything to cause it so it might just be a market issue

When this happened to me along time ago the solution was to open the gTalk app and make sure it signs in then try downloading from the market, worth a try anyway

Shame i thought it would have been that. When I posted before I had literally a few seconds before that updated an app on the market & I just started to dl the imdb app so markets working

Edit: Actually the market is definitely a bit sluggish for me at the mo & is acting a bit weird with displaying the apps in Downloads...

Did you try the signing into Google Talk 'trick' to see if that helps?

I would really appreciate any help as I am stuck with a pretty bland phone atm :D

Thanks to everyone who has suggested fixes

Is it opening the market in general, or when downloading an app? Because if it's when downloading an app, all I do is sign into Google Talk, then it starts the download.

Not sure if it's the same issue as you have though. :/

With mine it is definately something to do with the account, I've tried on the stock 2.1 and on FLB and both dont work but I wiped everything and created a new account and that seemed to work, not sure what is wrong with my account :D

Okay, after much googling and sniffing around I found the fix.

Turns out google have screwed up some (if not all) UK accounts with the switch to GMail.

The fix is simple. Change your account from @googlemail to @gmail, wait an hour (recommend 2) then factory reset your phone, sign into your google account (@gmail) and your good to go :D

You can change your account from @googlemail to @gmail in the GMail setting (On a desktop computer not a phone) The option is in tiny writing

Hope this helps everyone with this issue now and everyone that will probably suffer from this in the near future

Hey, I´ve the same problem and tried a lot....except of this - I hope this will do.

So probably I´m just a fool - but unfortunately I´m not able to find the "googlemail gmail changing option" in my gmail settings.

Could you please write some more in detail where to find that option?

Thanks!

Go to Google mail -> Top-right "Settings" -> "Accounts and Imports" Tab -> Under the heading "Send mail as" You will find your name and email address, next to the email address there will be a "Switch to @gmail.com?"

Ctrl+F = Find, search for @ gmail :D if you can't see it on the page.

(Note this HAS to be done on a desktop PC as for some reason it did not give the option on my device)

Just a note if you DO switch to GMAIL from Googlemail. This is taken from the Googlemail help pages:

Android: If you use an Android device and change your address, the Google Talk app might not connect properly, but other Google applications should work fine. To fix Google Talk, you'll need to wait one day after switching your address to @gmail.com and then turn airplane mode on and then back off. After you've done this, Google Talk should work again. Note that you'll appear in Google Talk as your @gmail.com address to everyone else, even though it still shows as your @googlemail.com address on your device.

One question - following the steps above will mean that I (again) have to re-install all my applications.

I've been using AppMonster to backup all my apps in the past, but the problem is that when I re-install them, they're not registered in Android Market, so I'll not get automatic notification of application updates. I've gone through a few ROM changes in the past couple of months (1.5 -> Hungarian 2.1 -> FLB 1.0 -> FLB 1.2 -> UK 2.1 - > UK 2.1 Community -> TRE 2.1 -> back to FLB 1.0).

In each case, I've chosen to re-download from the market in order to keep my update notifications, but wondered if there was any way to re-integrate my manually installed apps back into the Market download list?

Titanium Backup (Requires root) is the only free backup tool that I know of that can save the market data.

Perhaps you should look into that in the future :D

A cache blasting application called CacheMate (Market) sorted this same problem out for me.

I suspect that this workaround (it is not a fix) will only be temporary I'm afraid. I imagine those that move from googlemail to gmail will still end up with the same market problem at a random time in the future.

Google need to step up to this problem but they are completely ignoring it.

Well.. I believe that will the change of all servers to defaulting to @gmail it just screwed up the @googlemail accounts, breaking apps like market.

I don't think this will happen again unless they change the default @ again

@gm anyone? :D

@goo ftw!

Perhaps but the Market problems have been around far longer than the move from googlemail to gmail. And frankly the "fix" which again involves wiping your phone is not really a fix at all - it's a bodge which does not get to the cause of the issue. I wonder if Google actually WANT us to buy iPhones?
