First of all hello everyone!!

I bought an SPV recently and have been using it for a while with no probs on my computer with WIN 98, but, yesterday I got my new machine which uses win xp and whenever I try to sync with active sync it says "password detected" and asks me for a password I don't have.

I don't use any passwords anywhere, has anyone had this problem before??

Can you help??

Thanx

Sounds like you have 'phone lock' enabled - the password should be the same as the one you use to unlock the phone...

Yep, TooMuch2AM's right - it's your SIM1 (or maybe keylock) code. If you don't use one on the 'phone, try reinstalling ActiveSync.

It also used to ask me for a password when connecting to my old PPC, so that seems like a good explanation, however, it's never asked me for a password with the SPV...

There is no password anywhere, none in the pc, none in the SPV, also, there weren any passwords at all in the old win98 machine.

Mine doesn't seem to ask for a password either, however I use XP. Try using the SIM1 code anyway, see if it works. Good luck.

What does the password box look like?

Is it the standard windows (netbios) password type box, or is it a plain box with a small password field and a 'remember this password' box?

It's possible that Activesync is having permissions issues with windows, you may need to remove and reinstall Activesync.

I'm sure you're right, it's the SIM1 code. I go through the same every time I do a hard reset. Get a popup where it says "The device is password protected, please type the password" or sommat like that. There's also the usual tickbox to always remember the password.

Edit: Also using XP Pro here

Chris, the pop up you get is exactly the one I get!

XP does not ask for a password if you do not have your device lock activated. Perhaps something has gone wrong in your SPV making it think that the device lock has been set at one time. The best thing to try would be to back everthing in you ISPM up using your Win98 machine and try setting device lock on (Press and release the power button and select device lock) If it goes straight into lock mode then you have a password set and will need to enter this password to use your phone again. If you know this password/code then this is the password you need for activesync. If you don't know the code then you will need to perform a hardreset to get back into the phone (That's the reason for backing up everything in your ISPM before you attempt this). If the device does not have a password set already it will ask you to enter one and confirm it. Use the password you just entered (it will be a number) to get access to active sync on your XP machine.

The SIM1 password is something totally different and if it is set (simlock turned on) you will get asked for it whenever you turn the phone on or switch the radio off and on again. It defaults to 1111 acording to the manual.

Any one??? SIM1 code?? plz??

Do you have to type in a code when you boot your phone? If so, this is your SIM1 code. If this one doesn't work, do you have a keylock code?

If neither of these work, try creating a new partnership in ActiveSync after deleting the old partnership(s). ActiveSync's co-operation with the SPV is a bit flaky at the best of times. If all else fails, you need to uninstall ActiveSync, restart your PC then reinstall.

Sorry, but, i forgot to mention that I have uninstalled active sync and th USB controllers and put them back on with no success in the proccess.

There is no partnership as such as I haven't beeen able to use the SPV on this computer yet coz as soon as the SPV sits on the cradle, it pops up with this f... window.

No, there are no passwords or keylocks nor do I have enter a key when I turn the phone on. Hmmmm.. nope, can't think of anything else.

Try all the default codes: 1111 (as Shuflie says), 0000 and 1234. You're not going to lock anything this way, it'll just give you an invalid password dialog. I assume you've also tried just pressing [Enter]?

If you're using a USB hub, try disconnecting it and connecting the cradle directly to a USB port on the PC.

Nope, nothing of that has worked. Still the "beloved" pop up gets back to me.

I had this, then it went away, after i used an account with full administrator rights on xp pro..

(I can't proove it fixed it, because it was a problem that solved itself -about the same time as i was doing something else on the pc!)

might be worth a try.

Shee-it. I'm afraid I can't be of any more help right now, I'm off out to get rat-arsed and play pool. "Wonderful Copenhagen". Good luck mate, if anyone can fix it you'll find 'em on this board.

One last suggestion: a hard reset to force a new partnership on ActiveSync. Last resort, though.

Cheers mate!!

Thanks for your help anyway!! Enjoy your game. ;)

Full administrator rights might be an idea, if you don't already have them, but I think that if you didn't have full admin rights then you wouldn't have been able to install activesync. I wasn't able to anyway.

Good luck,

A little clarification:

my usual login (has administrator rights etc).

I logged in (for another reason entirely). as user 'administrator'.

Hope that clears it up.
