Guest Stephen Hyde Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 evening all, just wondering if anyone else has seen this, i have my uk o2 streak running the 2.1 update but every now and then it seems that the device just dies totally while asleep. requiring battery removal to be able to reboot it. any ideas what cause may be ?
Guest spences10 Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 Yes I had seen this, more so when I was trying to get into fastboot. I thought I had turned it off but t was in the sleep mode. The screen was blank but not responding to the power switch - I also noticed that the computer recognized the phone in this state.
Guest spences10 Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 I have just encountered this again tried adb and fastboot with no response
Guest Ellis Grouse Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 Are you sure it's actually dying? I've noticed a bug where the backlight doesn't reactive, yet the screen does - meaning it still appears to be turned off whilst it is running. Next time this happens, try calling, texting or sending an email to it and see if it makes a noise - it may not even be asleep. I've only seemed to notice this on the 2.1 build, also - so much for unfinished software :D

I've only seemed to notice this on the 2.1 build, also - so much for unfinished software :D I had the unwakable sleep once, had to pull the battery, so far just that once but I'm worried. I also today had "won't sleep, pushing the sleep button only dimmed the screen" for the first tiim. Tried a whole bunch of things to see if I could figure what was hosed, couldn't find anything, rebooted and it was fine. I've got an AT&T new model, running 2.1 and rooted 9and a few other hacks like uninstalling some rom apps which I hear now is a bad idea) so my Streak is not a good judge of stability really.

Using 'adb devices' or 'fastboot devices' doesn't return anything
Guest prawnballs Posted August 21, 2010 Report Posted August 21, 2010 I also today had "won't sleep, pushing the sleep button only dimmed the screen" for the first tiim. I've had this today for the first time, it's happened about 3 times this afternoon. A reboot fixes things. Have you had any luck finding out why it's happening? Any other threads around with people having the same issue??

There only seems to be a few of us experiencing this, and I haven't seen any other similar posts.
Guest Matthias_WL Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 Until now (16 days) I had my Streak go completely dead two times. Once after putting it in silent mode and once without any specific activity. Stock 1.6 German ROM. Nearly broke my fingernails removing the back cover but after (carefully - it tends to bend the phones innards) removing the battery it booted just fine.
Guest bostonguy Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 There only seems to be a few of us experiencing this, and I haven't seen any other similar posts. I'm thinking it has something to do with wifi. Sometimes when I go to shut off wifi it hangs at "Turning off..." and never recovers to "Off". If I look at the power widget the wifi indicator is half lit up like it hung. Only way to then re-enable wifi is to reboot. Anyway, I've gone two days with only activating wifi when i need it, and never letting the device sleep with wifi enabled. And so far in two days no "power dims screen but doesn't turn device off" I have a hunch the two problems (wifi not shutting down clean and not going to full sleep) are related...of course it could just be a coincidence, so I'll keep testing.
Guest yosemite-sam Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 You may be a king or a little dell streaker, but sooner or later you'll dance with the Reaper!

Each time I encountered this I did not have the WiFi on, this was when I was in recovery worry juast after the 2.1 ROM was leaked and I messed up by trying to go back to 1.6 then up again and it all went a bit Pete Tong. I had thought the device was turned off, I had oulled the battery put it back in and this mode appeares >_< It's not happened for a while now, but I keep getting issues with the vibration comming and going has anyone else that has dfiscovered this permanent sleep mode also have issues with vibration comming and going as it pleases?
