Where is 'Software number' located in a ROM?

Currently I'm running MCR r8 RC1, and everything seems good so far. I did modify the ROM manually, merging some of the changes from the kitchen files of the TelstraMod r3.

Specifically, I copied some of the settings from customize/CRN/default.xml and some from customize/MRN/default.xml (don't have the files on hand right now, so I'm not sure of those paths).

Neither file contains the string 'TelstraMod r3', and yet when I look in Software Information on my phone, that is what it says for Software Number.

Is it possible that string is left over from when I had TelstraMod r3 installed, and hasn't been overwritten by MCR r8 RC1?

That doesn't seem likely to me, since ClockworkMod Recovery says it is formatting system, but I can't think why else it would say that.
