Downgrade HBOOT 0.83 with AMOLED??

I'm currently on HBOOT 0.83 with a custom 2.2 Froyo ROM, but would like to downgrade to 0.80 so I can install Stock 2.2 ROM as I'm currently having some issues.

Seen conflicting threads saying it is possible, some saying it isn't.

Not sure what to do?!

Would it work to just install a generic RUU? Or am I just crazy? =P

Did you have that HBOOT out the box? Where did you get the phone form? Is it a branded phone?
