Guest maskaler Posted August 21, 2010 Report Posted August 21, 2010 (edited) I dropped my phone from about waist height a couple of days ago, picking it up to discover the corner of the screen is b0rked and the LCD has broken and has leaked a bit. I am insured with the O2 insurance, so I'd assume I'll be ok and get it repaired/replaced (can anyone confirm?), but I'm now thinking if I'd used my head and got a decent, shock absorbing case then this wouldn't have happened. The streak is big enough as it is, so does anyone have any good recommendations for a nice fitting, ergonomic case that would've saved my Streak from its current fate? Thanks in advance Ant *edit* pic of my screen Edited August 21, 2010 by maskaler
Guest miker71 Posted August 21, 2010 Report Posted August 21, 2010 ouch! that's unfortunate. what kind of surface did it land on?
Guest griff_dai Posted August 21, 2010 Report Posted August 21, 2010 Gorilla Glass + paper thin glass...... Good luck with the repair! Still waiting to hear about what's happening with mine!
Guest maskaler Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 Gorilla Glass + paper thin glass...... Good luck with the repair! Still waiting to hear about what's happening with mine! I dropped it onto the sidewalk, a spanish sidewalk to be precise. Bloody thing! Is yours taking a while to get fixed through O2 insurance?
Guest m4tt24 Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 Did exactly the same to mine slipped out of my pocket and dropped onto some block paving, chipped about 1/2mm of the Gorilla Glass but not the LCD not bothered going through insurance as it's working fine.
Guest CharlieBareham Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 As long as they're in stock. They were not when I claimed, took three weeks with me constantly calling before they decided that they were in stock, like I kept telling them. It would let me go through with a purchase online so I called them and they said that they were in stock, but insurance kept saying no and tried to fob me off with a Nokia N900. Just keep at it if they give you bullshit.
Guest flamingsamurai Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 Justice, nice. But yeah that sucks, would like to get a unobtrusive case too now. Can't really see any good ones on ebay though
Guest zwmg Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 I broke mine, too. Well I didn't. On the train it was on a table and when the train very fastl<y moved to the right it fell on the floor. I wasn't there when it happenend so I don't know what exactly happenend. But this was quite how I was told it happenend by someone who saw it. And the complete glass etc. is broken. At the mo it's not falling out of the Streak but I don't think a glass can be broken in more way than this. Tha display and touchscreen are working fine. I don't see any breaking there and I can use the dell. But again: The glass is broken in almost every way. This is such a disappoiuntment. My iPhone dropped a lot in the years and NEVER EVER has it been broken whatsoever. The Dell falls the first time and the whole screen is broken. Gorilla glass like in the Engadget video? What a lie! Sorry guys, but this is no gorilla glass just a marketing gag. I will tell Dell that when I call them. I guess this won't be covered by warranty, will it? I mean if every display would have been broken that I or friends dropped, we wpuld have lost a lot of phones! I bought it from ebay (private auction) in GER, it is an unlocked UK device.

Ouch, harsh dude. I got mine replace by O2 Insure the day after I rang up incidentally. New box, new everything by the looks of it - well chuffed. Have ordered one of those OtterBox covers for it so will be extra careful until it arrives!
Guest zwmg Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 Yeah, heard that o2 has a really good service. I hope Dell GER will cover it, if not some insurance. And if it will be repaired, first thing I do is sell this thing and buy a HTC Desire HD. Yeah way smaller, but I don't wanna be afraid everytime it somehow slips out of my hand. Nice device, but really cheap material. A real disappointment, esp. after the engadget gorilla glass video. Never had that before with about 100 cellphones.
